Neither of the Boston bombers were from Dagestan.
They were Chechens with one brother born in Kyrgyzstan and the other in Kalymk ASSR within the Soviet Union.

Dagestan is a mainly Muslim region of Russia once noted for intense violence.

While large protests have taken place in major cities across Russia in recent days - with more than 700 people being arrested on Saturday alone - the images of Dagestani demonstrators fighting with police marks a rare outbreak of violence against authorities.

Dozens of videos posted to social media showed protesters confronting police and other security officials in Makhachkala, with OVD-Info reporting that officers resorted to using stun guns and truncheons on the crowds.

In one video, a man detained by officials headbutts a police officer, before being beaten by other personnel.

Another video showed a security officer fleeing from a large group of demonstrators, some of whom attempted to grab and trip him as he ran.

Elsewhere, a large group of women confronted an officer guarding a recruiting centre and angrily condemned the war in Ukraine, with one telling the officer that "Russia is on the territory of another country".

"Why are you taking our children," the women shouted. "Who was attacked? Russia was attacked? They didn't come to us. It was us attacking Ukraine. Russia has attacked Ukraine! Stop the war!"

OVD-Info also reported that locals in the village of Endirey had blocked a federal highway, in an attempt to stop security officials seeking to enforce the draft entering the area.

Footage obtained by the group showed police officers firing automatic rifles in the air as they sought to break up the demonstration, but locals continued to block the road.

In an attempt to ease the outbreak of anger, Dagestan's Governor Sergei Melikov admitted on Sunday that "mistakes have been made" during mobilisation.

"I have already spoken about this before, but I will repeat it again: partial mobilization must take place strictly according to the criteria announced by the president," Mr Melikov wrote on Telegram.

The region is believed to have already supplied thousands of troops for the invasion of Ukraine, with recent analysis by the BBC's Russian service suggesting that Dagestan has suffered more casualties than any other Russian province in the conflict.

The tally - conducted earlier this month - showed at least 301 soldiers from Dagestan have died, 10 times more than in Moscow. The true figure is likely to be far higher.

More than 2,000 people have been arrested at mass protests since Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the new draft on Wednesday.

Many young Russian men have also sought to flee the country, attempting to cross the border into neighbouring Finland and Georgia.

And there have been reports from across the country that many people ineligible for the draft have been ordered to report for duty by local recruiting officers.

With some EU member states calling for more Russian banks to be cut off from the SWIFT payments system, U.S. senators proposing stricter secondary sanctions for the G-7 oil price cap, and talk of EU-wide oil price limits, Peach suggested that the Russia energy sector – a key pillar of economic strength – could come under threat.

"Calling up reservists and prolonging the conflict will come at a cost. Russia's federal budget swung into a large deficit in August and, for the government to maintain its prudent management of the public finances, tax hikes will be needed," Peach said.

The call-up of 300,000 reservists, alongside reports of many military age citizens fleeing the country to avoid conscription, could also compound Russia's labor supply problems, he suggested.

"Official figures show total outward migration of 216,000 in the first half of the year and unofficial figures put the number closer to half a million," Peach said.

"For a country with a declining working-age population this is a big loss of labour and could stifle Russia's growth prospects in both the short and medium term."

The invasion of Ukraine has resulted in demand destruction of the EU bloc's 60%+ share of Russian energy exports.

Image

“The EU needs to secure alternative supplies now if it wants to phase out Russian gas imports well before 2030, as per the REPowerEU Plan. That means acting immediately to support domestic production, secure long-term LNG contracts, and fix remaining infrastructure bottlenecks. Any further delay will extend the suffering our continent is currently experiencing and increases the risk of economic and societal damage. Industry is particularly hard hit.” said François-Régis Mouton, IOGP’s Regional Director for Europe.

“As Russia holds European energy supplies hostage, this study shows how critical American natural gas will be to lasting global energy security,” API Vice President of Natural Gas Markets Dustin Meyer said. “To harness the power of U.S. LNG, we need smart and consistent policy support here at home, including strengthening domestic pipeline networks and energy export facilities, that will ensure both American consumers and global allies have access to the reliable energy that powers our modern world.”

The study by Rystad Energy captures detailed input from market parties along the full gas value chain. It was co-funded by IOGP and API, in collaboration with ENTSO-G and Gas Infrastructure Europe. The study assesses supply options and infrastructure capability, using EU demand forecasts.

The shooting comes after scattered arson attacks on enlistment offices and protests in Russian cities against the military call-up that have resulted in at least 2,000 arrests. Russia is seeking to bolster its military as its Ukraine offensive has bogged down.

In the attack in the Siberian city of Ust-Ilimsk, 25-year-old resident Ruslan Zinin walked into the enlistment office saying “no one will go to fight” and “we will all go home now,” according to local media.

Zinin was arrested and officials vowed tough punishment. Authorities said the military commandant was in intensive care. A witness quoted by a local news site said Zinin was in a roomful of people called up to fight and troops from his region were heading to military bases on Tuesday.

Look at them running away now...

That's what you get when you support (implicitly/explicitly) a murderous bully and dictator for years and not see that eventually it will affect you. I almost don't feel bad for them. Choose your leaders carefully.

Denmark has indicated that Nordstream II is leaking.
Somehow the first impression would be this is no accident.

Ukrane saying it was a "terrorist attack" by Russia..

but lewwe be real... truth is the first casualty of war.... who stands to gain and who stands to lose?

The Nordstream II pipeline allows Russia to instantly provide gas to Germany. All they had to do was to negotiate terms to remove sanctions and boom-- gas flows to Germany again.

Now that pipeline is kaput and there is no immediate incentive to remove sanctions. Who does this benefit?

Pipeline going kaput also means that Europe is more dependent on gas from the USA, and will have to pay a premium for it. Competition, also kaput. Again, who does this benefit?

Put the crackpot pipe down.

N2 never supplied gas... to anyone. That's positive pressure that was used for testing that's bubbling out.

NS1 is supplying Europe with gas. The flow is roughly 20% of capacity.

U.S. announces an additional $1.1 billion in military aid for Ukraine

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. will provide an additional $1.1 billion in aid to Ukraine, with funding for about 18 more advanced rocket systems and other weapons to counter drones that Russia has been using against Ukrainian troops, the Biden administration announced Wednesday.

The latest package is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which funds contracts to purchase weapons and equipment. And it brings the total of U.S. aid to Ukraine to nearly $17 billion since the Biden administration took office.

The aid announcement comes as Russia moves to annex parts of Russian-occupied Ukraine that held Kremlin-orchestrated referendums on living under Moscow’s rule. The votes were denounced by Kyiv and the West as illegal and rigged.

When you consider the USA has an US$754 billion annual military budget Ukraine has received less than 10% of the spend there. https://www.pgpf.org/budget-basics/budg ... al-defense

If Ukraine donations are reallocations from somewhere in that Pentagon budget then there is no impact on the taxpayer as it would be money already budgeted for.

The US annual foreign economic and military aid budget is typically greater than $50 billion.

Venezuela was doing p. good before Chavez and US Sanctions.

Seeing how things going, those sanctions might be lifted (or not, the US energy industry interests might not like competition even allied competition), and good times might return.

You have to remember all our National Flag, National Colors, Nation Anthem, National Birds... all dat chit is brain washing. It did not exist prior to 1962. It have no reason why this small island should be a country by itself. It would have meant something to me if we were part of the West Indian Federation or something larger.

So, what I'm saying is that I, for one, would welcome our new Venezuelan overlords.

but lewwe be real... truth is the first casualty of war.... who stands to gain and who stands to lose?

The Nordstream II pipeline allows Russia to instantly provide gas to Germany. All they had to do was to negotiate terms to remove sanctions and boom-- gas flows to Germany again.

Now that pipeline is kaput and there is no immediate incentive to remove sanctions. Who does this benefit?

Pipeline going kaput also means that Europe is more dependent on gas from the USA, and will have to pay a premium for it. Competition, also kaput. Again, who does this benefit?

Pres. Biden: "If Russia invades...then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it."

Reporter: "But how will you do that, exactly, since...the project is in Germany's control?"

Biden: "I promise you, we will be able to do that." http://abcn.ws/3B5SScx

Put the crackpot pipe down.

N2 never supplied gas... to anyone. That's positive pressure that was used for testing that's bubbling out.

NS1 is supplying Europe with gas. The flow is roughly 20% of capacity.

Nah these wanna be GOP fools feel Biden heself sabotage the line

sooo, now europe will have noooo other choice, THAN to buy gas from america, instead of russia.

just as the place is getting cold and citizens will be clamoring for heating mechanisms. nooooo pipeline no more.

at least, is not putin. cause they have nothig to gain.

There aren't any pipelines carrying Russian Gas to Europe? Just more stupidshitt.

Somehow the first impression would be this is no accident.

The below pic was from a RDAF F16 taken today.

the ns2 was built with a purpose, and could have been activated to facilitate more gas flows. but now.... that card has been removed for mr putin.

Europe isn't buying Russian natural gas.

... European analysts suggest Russians might have had a reason to do it themselves — even though they are the owners of the pipelines. An adviser to Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelenskyy called it a “terrorist attack” by Russia that was meant to destabilize the European Union. Recently, Polish and Danish heads of state had participated in a ceremonial opening of another gas pipeline, and the nearby explosions may be intended as “a signal that something could happen to the Norwegian gas,” Anders Puck Nielsen, a researcher with the Center for Maritime Operations at the Royal Danish Defence College, told Reuters.

What could happen next is unclear. The pipeline is majority-owned by Russian entities, and its destruction has not caused any energy problems that haven’t already been apparent for months. “Any deliberate attack against Allies’ critical infrastructure would be met with a united and determined response,” according to NATO’s statement — which seemingly is written in a way to rule out any escalation with Russia.
