Russia? It's not doing so well.

Image

The Russian central bank forecasted that the country's economy will shrink by between 4 percent and 6 percent this year and by between 1 percent and 4 percent in 2023, before returning to positive growth in 2024.

The Finance Ministry last month said the economy shrank by 4 percent in the second quarter, after growing 3.5 percent in the previous three months.

The contraction is a sign that unprecedented restrictions imposed by the EU, the U.S. and other countries supporting Ukraine are starting to bite, according to observers.

Sanctions targeting Russia's energy exports led to a rise in energy prices, which partly cushioned their impact, along with emergency measures by Moscow aimed at maintaining a strong currency.

But bans on technology shipments ground manufacturing to a halt, and the downturn is likely to continue in 2023, as an EU ban on most of Russia's oil exports kicks in at the end of the year, restricting export revenues which have been the lifeline of Russia's economy.

The Ukrainian daily Ukrainska Pravda reports that a pro-Kremlin Russian journalist, Sergei Sreda, revealed the Wagner HQ in a Telegram post on 8 August. He posted photos of his visit to the HQ and a sign in one of them identified its address as Mironovskaya 12, Popasna.

The post was later removed, but copies are circulating on social media.

Russian ammo dump in Crimea struck again this morning.
Beyond the range of HIMARS at Ukraine's nearest controlled territory. Seems Ruskies been smoking again next to hazardous materials.

I have a book by a Ron Rosenbaum which speaks of previous times the world was close to nuclear war and the likelistest scenario - India Pakistan and it's outcome.

Maybe that changed but I was stunned how global shaping limited nuclear conflict in the subcontinent with would be.

Smash, your comrades getting an early Ukraine Independence Day gift.

Tonight (Ukraine/Russia time) there are explosions an an airbase in Stary Oskol, explosions at an ammo dump in Timonovo (both Belgorod Oblast Russia), explosions in occupied Nova Kakhova and Russia anti aircraft activity in Sevastopol and Kerch in Russian occupied Crimea. If Russia loses the Kerch Bridge that's about it for their occupation of Southern Ukraine.

They really thought at some point war wasn't coming onto Mother Russian soil??

taht is interesting: coudl blow up the transmission lines to ukraine, and when fixing back, jess re route them to russia instead.

but, that would take a lot of prep work on the russian side, to be able to connect to the plant.
so, air photos should show if civil works are going on to the russian side to accept power from that plant....

it dont make sense blowing up the ukraine transfer lines now, if the plant cant supply any where now. it would have to be shut down or idled.

so, show the physical infrastructure for russia to hijack the power, or, that theory is rubbish.

Perhaps just an old tactic to raise approval ratings.

David Satter is a US journalist who spent decades covering Russian politics before he was expelled from the country after claiming that President Putin and the FSB may have been involved with the deadly Russia apartment bombings in 1999.

We talked to Satter about the bombings at PutinCon, a summit organized by the Human Rights Foundation that gathered together some of Putin's biggest critics. Following is a transcript of the video.

David Satter: You had to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to see what was going on. And in particular, you had to be willfully ignorant if you didn't see the implications of the Ryazan incident.

Satter: In the summer of 1999 the approval rating of former President Yeltsin was 2%. There appeared to be no chance whatever that Putin, who was designated by Yeltsin as his successor could possibly become the next Russian president. The apartment bombings changed everything. It was said after those buildings went up that now we're living in a completely different country.

More than 200 people were killed in the September bombings. Russia blamed Chechen militants, triggering the second Chechen War.

That a false conspiracy theory.

9/11 was the work of Islamic extremists, supported by the Muslim world.

During the war, the enemy lost almost 2,000 tanks, 234 aircraft and 15 ships. Forbes calculated how much the equipment destroyed by Ukraine cost and which losses were the most painful.

In six months in Ukraine, the Russians lost 12,142 pieces of equipment worth $16.56 billion, excluding missiles.

The largest loss of the Russian army was the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet with powerful weapons - the missile cruiser "Moskva" worth $750 million . On April 13, Ukrainian missiles "Neptun" struck the "Moscow" - the next day, the flagship went to the bottom.

In addition to the "Moskva" on Zmiiny Island and in the surrounding waters, Ukraine destroyed $165 million worth of Russian equipment and ships. Among them are eight anti-aircraft complexes of the "Thor", "Pantsyr" and "Strila" types with a total cost of more than $100 million.

Before the sinking of the "Moscow", the most expensive loss of the Russians was a large IL-76 amphibious assault plane worth $86 million, which was shot down by air defense forces at the end of February in the sky over Vasylkov, Kyiv region.

The third most expensive was the large amphibious assault ship "Saratov" for $75 million. The Ukrainian army attacked the ship when it was in the port of occupied Berdyansk - delivering military equipment there.
