Hell no to roaming but some bmobile plans, like mine has roaming data and minutes included. So you can check that.
Verizon is the most consistent provider in the US if you're buying a sim.

I trusted them with setting up my parents on their first solo trip without me. They landed and nothing worked, ended up getting a refund and told my parents go T-Mobile, staff hooked them up with data for like 30us. So it still cheaper to get it when you land

Airalo if your phone supports E-Sims.
Just load up for Data for US$5, for 1Gb expiring in 7 days.

Last few times I travelled(2-3 week stints), I did the Digicel roaming prepaid thing.

Worked good for me.

It depends what is the purpose of data package.

If you want data/ phone service for emergency use only - I use Bmobile without problems.
The good thing about most locations in USA is everywhere has free WiFi . Supermarket, Mall, Stores, etc.

However if you plan to call ppl while on the move and need data for Uber, WhatsApp / FaceTime calls, check email etc.then purchase a prepaid unlimited plan from AT&T, T-Mobile or smaller carrier and you would be better off.
Packages should start at $25usd
P.s. don’t buy international SIM cards in airport

As US providers are planning to turn down their 3G networks, if you plan to use a mobile network in the US, ensure your phone supports LTE.

When is it happening?

As early as January 1, 2022, though plans and timing to phase out 3G services will vary by company and may change. Consult your mobile provider's website for the most up-to-date information.

AT&T announced that it will finish shutting down its 3G network by February 2022.
Verizon announced that will finish shutting down its 3G network by December 31, 2022.
T-Mobile announced that it will finish shutting down Sprint's 3G CDMA network by March 31, 2022 and Sprint's 4G LTE network by June 30, 2022. It also announced it will shut down T-Mobile's 3G UMTS network by July 1, 2022, but has not yet announced a shutdown date for its 2G network.

If your mobile carrier is not listed here, you may still be affected. Many carriers, such as Cricket, Boost, Straight Talk, and several Lifeline mobile service providers, utilize AT&T's, Verizon's, and T-Mobile's networks.

Note: These are dates for completing the shutdowns. Carriers may begin retiring parts of their networks sooner.
