Dust Proof a house

Postby daring dragoon » July 7th, 2021, 3:54 pm

with all this saharan dust in the air from dry season to wet season I think its time to dust proof the entire house.
Any ideas how to go about something like this?
What do I need to buy and where sells it?

I cant be the only one affected by this saharan dust, what do you all use against the dust?

Dust can get in the minutest of cracks/crevaces/gaps.

Try getting an appropriately sized air purifier for the rooms that you spend most of the time in. That might be cheaper than trying to make your house airtight

For most people, simply keeping the doors and windows closed is the best you can do unless you have louvers.

After that, consider planting trees around your yard. Trees catch a lot of dust in the foliage.

The most major concern is proper ventilation. Cant keep too much stale air in the house even if it cold and air conditioned. Too much carbon dioxide in the air leads to terrible sleep, nausea and poor concentration, which is doubly bad if you work and study home.

For the ventilation part, Have an intake/exhaust fan on a timer to turn on when the outdoor atmosphere is dewy
WAter condenses on the dust and pulls it down to the ground. Correk me if I wrong
Also put filters on the intake fan.

BUT OP
What is your environment like? is it a dusty area? Or u just fed up sweep? Because even a sealed room produces dust (skin cells/hair/foot traffic/disintegration of your walls and belongings)

Good luck with that.
Unless you plan on living in a vacuum, what you asking is practically impossible. Every time a door or window opens, dust will enter.
Better rewards can be found n basically keeping the building closed up as much as possible and you doing all that you can to keep yourself in peak optimum health. Because you can minimize the dust collected inside your home, but you will eventually have to go outside, and unless you have come up with a way to be outside of your home and not need to breathe you will be exposed to it and inhaling it.

In the meantime OP

Take a box fan and rub a THIN layer of vaseline on the blades and grill
It traps dust.

Yes this is something I have done.

There's no magic-bullet solution. What you're asking could literally be a list of products and several projects around your house to get even close to what you're asking... especially when we don't know what kind of home we're talking about. Tuners above gave some pretty good starting points. Good luck.

the house faces the direct wind. with high wind you can hear the wind whistling under the doors. on days like yesterday dust can be felt everywhere even tho the door is closed. I am getting fed up of this saharan dust was was thinking about some kind of mesh or screen to put up but idk what will work. with this covid you cant go to the hospital with sinus issues or even go to the private doctor as they watch you cautiously. sinus issue have symptoms of sore throat, coughing, sneezing etc.

Wet the doors...allied sells adhesive seals for doors that stop air passing through.

The rubber strips for the bottom should also do the trick.

I use the seals on windows as well...

Buy a really GOOD air purifier for your bedroom, works wonders... and dont but those cheap tower type ones available locally, they are crap... look up which purifiers are good for allergies and buy one of those like the AUstin, mind you they are pricey but really good.
