Emile Elias on sexual offences charges

CONTRACTOR Emile Elias has been charged with two sexual offences against a minor and will appear virtually before a Port of Spain magistrate on March 24.
The 84-year-old was charged late Wednesday night with sexual grooming and sexual penetration of a minor.

According to the charges, Elias, owner of NH International, which has several contracts with the Government, is accused of meeting with the 17-year-old girl between September 1 and November 30, 2019 with the intent of grooming her for penetration.

On November 21, 2019, it is alleged that Elias, of Fairways Maraval, penetrated the child. The offences are alleged to have taken place at his office at Long Circular Road, St James.
He was granted $100,000 bail at the West End Police Station on Wednesday night to cover both charges.

Elias spent most of the day on Wednesday being interviewed by the Child Protection Unit.
After the alleged assault, the child told relatives, who informed the police, who began investigating.
Elias is being represented by Gilbert Peterson, SC, and John Heath.

Emile Elias Granted $100,000 Bail on Sexual Charges

Businessman EMILE ELIAS was granted $100,000 bail by a Justice of the Peace last night in connection with two sexual charges against a 17-year-old girl.

ELIAS, 84, is expected to appear before the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on March 24th.

ELIAS, who resides in Fairways, Maraval, was charged on March 10th with one count of sexual penetration and one count of sexual grooming by officers attached to the Western Division Child Protection Unit (CPU).

The charges stemmed from an alleged incident in November 2019 in which a 17-year-old girl reported to police that she was sexually assaulted by a man in St James.

Investigators discovered that the girl was allegedly groomed during the period September–November 2019 before the assault allegedly occurred.

Enquiries into this case were headed by W/Supt (Ag.)
Claire Guy-Alleyne and included officers of the Western CPU, namely, Sgt James, WPCs Beckles, Samuel, Kerr and PCs Noel and Burton. Assistance was also given by Snr Supt Oswain Subero, of
the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), Maraval Police Station, and the Port-of-Spain CPU.
