After having to lie about "fixing a bug" to cover up running scared out of a Twitter spaces meeting, then shutting it down like a kid with his ball the other day AND getting called out for banning journalists for asking tough questions on Friday, I think Musk is beginning to understand how in over his head he might be.

unlikely. this isn't a programming/tech thing, it's a trend across most industries, brought on by inflation and the feds' measures to counter it. big tech is just being put in the spotlight because they are currently the backbone of the US economy.

Big tech was over extended after the pandemic which saw landmark growth. Reality has hit and they need to readjust their earning expectations, that was always bound to happen.

But tech ain't going anywhere soon, it's just going to evolve like it's always done.

Elon Musk: Only blue tick users to vote in Twitter polls on policy

Elon Musk has said Twitter will only allow accounts with a blue tick to vote on changes to policy after a majority of users voted for him to quit.

Mr Musk launched a Twitter poll asking if he should step down as chief executive - 57.5% of users voted "yes".

Since then, he has not commented directly on the result of the poll.

But he has said that Twitter will alter its rules so that only people who pay for a subscription can vote on company policy.

One user claimed that so-called bots appeared to have voted heavily in the poll about Mr Musk's role at the firm. Mr Musk said he found the claim "interesting".

Elon Musk says he will step down as Twitter CEO — once he finds a replacement

Twitter owner Elon Musk confirmed Tuesday evening he will step down as the company’s CEO, but only when he identifies a successor, directly addressing for the first time a Twitter poll he created this week in which millions of users voted for his ouster.

In a tweet, Musk said he would resign “as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!”

He added that following his resignation as CEO, Musk would “run the software & servers teams” at Twitter, indicating he may continue to exercise significant influence on the company’s decision-making.

The Mastodon app on seen in the display of a mobile phone in November 2022.
As Twitter backlash grows, rival Mastodon reaches 2.5 million monthly users
The announcement comes after more than a day of silence about the poll following its outcome. On Monday, after more than 17 million users had voted — 57.5% of whom said Musk should resign — the billionaire executive addressed the results only indirectly. He suggested that future Twitter polls could be restricted to paid users of Twitter Blue, the company’s subscription service.

Musk’s poll asking users whether he should resign as CEO came after a massive backlash to Twitter’s abrupt suspension of several journalists who cover him, as well as Twitter’s decision to ban, and then un-ban, links to other social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Mastodon, a fast-growing Twitter rival that has octupled in size since October.

Musk’s brief tenure as CEO has resulted in sweeping, occasionally erratic shifts at one of the world’s most influential social media companies.

Under his leadership, Twitter has laid off the majority of its staff, alienated major advertisers, welcomed former President Donald Trump back to the platform after his suspension in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots and released internal communications to journalists about Twitter’s operations before Musk took ownership of the company.

Musk forced remaining employees to take a pledge to become “extremely hardcore” in their work, and stopped enforcing Twitter’s policy against Covid-19 misinformation.

Over a matter of days, Twitter launched, and then was forced to un-launch, a paid verification feature that was instantly manipulated by satirical accounts impersonating verified major brands, athletes and other public figures on the platform.

Musk’s penchant for making major product changes based on little more than informal Twitter polls has highlighted his ad hoc and improvisational management style. But that approach has attracted growing criticism from many Twitter users. Last week, Twitter suspended several journalists who had reported on Musk’s permanent ban of an account that tracked his jet.

Growing criticism of Musk culminated in Sunday’s poll that served as an effective, if unscientific, referendum on Musk’s handling of the company since he closed his purchase of Twitter in late October.

Shares of Tesla plunged to a fresh two-year low on Tuesday as the embattled automaker—already reeling from concerns chief Elon Musk has shifted too much focus to Twitter—reportedly faces a prolonged shutdown at a key factory next month and broader skepticism the electric vehicle industry can meet lofty sales expectation as Covid-19 outbreaks pummel demand in China, the world's largest auto market.
KEY FACTS
Tesla shares tanked 11.5% Tuesday to $109—the lowest level since August 2020 and a stunning 73% decline since a high of more than $400 in November 2021.

Losses piled on in pre-market trading immediately after Reuters reported the firm plans to cut production at its Shanghai factory in January, according to an internal plan that purportedly reveals the automaker will operate between January 3 and January 19 and then halt production for the rest of the month to observe the Chinese New Year.
Tesla, which disbanded its communications team in 2020, did not comment on the reports, though they come as the firm this weekend extended a planned eight-day production halt at the plant, which is the company's largest by car volume, in response to a growing wave of Covid-19 infections and workers and suppliers.

In emailed comments, analyst Adam Crisafulli of Vital Knowledge Media called the news only the "latest in a series of cautious headlines" about Tesla, noting the company last week rolled out a $7,500 discount—double what it was offering earlier this month—for its two most popular models in a bid to help bolster end-of-year demand.

Further fueling pessimism, rival electric-vehicle-maker NIO on Tuesday morning warned it has been "facing challenges in deliveries and production" as a result of Covid-19 outbreaks across major cities in China this month and slashed its projected fourth-quarter deliveries by some 15%, sending its shares down 8%.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
Tesla’s fourth-quarter delivery numbers are due out in early January. Analysts predict another record quarter for the firm, with about 422,000 vehicles delivered. Any less than that could further rattle investors.

KEY BACKGROUND
Shares of Tesla skyrocketed to an all-time high last November but have racked up big losses after Musk soon started selling shares and this year turned some attention to social media giant Twitter. Tesla stock’s collapse has made it the fifth-worst performing stock in the S&P 500 this year; the index is down 20%. Most of the decline has happened since late September, when Twitter shareholders approved Musk's $44 billion bid to buy the ailing social media network. "Musk has lost credibility with the broader investment community," Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said in a note to clients last week, blaming Tesla's stock woes on Musk's "broken promises," as he sells stock "again and again" despite having previously said he's "done" doing so.

CRUCIAL QUOTE
"At the same time that Tesla is cutting prices, and inventory is starting to build globally… Musk is viewed as asleep at the wheel from a leadership perspective," says Ives, giving the stock a one-year price target of $125.35—less than 9% of the analyst's bullish price target of $1,400 in January.

SURPRISING FACT
Tesla's market value peaked at more than $1.2 trillion in November 2021. The stock is now worth $344.5 billion—representing some $895 billion in losses.

TANGENT
Though Musk was at one point worth more than $215 billion, Tesla's plunging shares have pushed his fortune down to less than $140 billion, according to Forbes' estimates. The 51-year-old ceded his title as the world's richest person earlier this month, when he was surpassed by luxury goods titan Bernard Arnault.

Elon Musk has broken the world record for the largest loss of personal fortune in history.

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-64236726

From November 2021 to December 2022 he lost around $165bn, Guinness World Records said in a blog on its website.

The figures are based on data from publisher Forbes, but Guinness said other sources suggested Mr Musk's losses could have been higher.

It follows a fall in value of shares in Mr Musk's electric car firm Tesla after he bought Twitter last year.

His $44bn (£36bn) takeover of the social media company has sparked concerns among investors that Mr Musk is no longer giving Tesla enough attention.

The value of Tesla shares dropped around 65% in 2022, in part because of Tesla's performance. The firm delivered just 1.3 million vehicles during the year, falling short of Wall Street expectations.

However, Mr Musk's takeover of Twitter - where he has sparked controversy by firing large numbers of staff and changing content moderation policies - is behind most of the share slump.

In the UK, Twitter's landlord is ostensibly King Charles III.

Image

LONDON (AP) — More landlords are taking Twitter to court over unpaid rent, this time at the social media company’s headquarters in San Francisco and its British offices — the latest sign that owner Elon Musk’s extreme cost-cutting strategy includes simply not paying the bills.

Twitter is facing a lawsuit over allegations it failed to pay rent for its head office, according to California court documents. The owner of its premises in central London, meanwhile, said it’s taking the company to court over rental debt.

Musk is slashing costs after his $44 billion deal last year to buy Twitter left the company on the hook for about $1 billion in annual interest payments. Twitter has already been taken to court this month for falling behind on rent at another San Francisco office.

It’s the latest legal headache for Musk, who has been testifying in recent days in a separate class-action lawsuit from Tesla investors alleging his 2017 tweet misled them about funding to take the electric carmaker private.

Maybe if Elon lost, our resident bot would have given a timely update...

Tesla's Elon Musk found not liable in trial over 2018 'funding secured' tweets

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 3 (Reuters) - A U.S. jury on Friday found Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) CEO Elon Musk and his company were not liable for misleading investors when Musk tweeted in 2018 that he had "funding secured" to take the electric car company private.

Plaintiffs had claimed billions in damages and the decision also had been seen as important for Musk himself, who often takes to Twitter to air his views.

The jury came back with a unanimous verdict roughly two hours after beginning deliberations.

Musk was not present in court when the verdict was read but soon tweeted that he was "deeply appreciative" of the jury's decision.

"Thank goodness, the wisdom of the people has prevailed," he said.

Nicholas Porritt, a lawyer for the investors, said in a statement, "We are disappointed with the verdict and are considering next steps."

Shares of Tesla rose 1.6% in after-hours trading following the verdict.

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg agree to hold cage fight

Two of the world's most high-profile technology billionaires - Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg - have agreed to fight each other in a cage match.

Mr Musk posted a message on his social media platform Twitter that he was "up for a cage fight" with Mr Zuckerberg.

Mr Zuckerberg, the boss of Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta, then posted a screenshot of Mr Musk's tweet with the caption "send me location".

"The story speaks for itself," a Meta spokesperson told the BBC.

Mr Musk then replied to Mr Zuckerberg's response with: "Vegas Octagon."

The Octagon is the competition mat and fenced-in area used for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) bouts. The UFC is based in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Firstly this sounds quite far fetched if true, though there's probably some truth.

But who would be informing Musk (who's apparently on standby to give orders like this) to turn off drones in a specific area like that?

That requires a lot knowledge of the attack which is why this seems a bit unrealistic.

More likely the drones went underwater and lost connectivity and Ukraine or someone is trying to blame Musk.

Anyway Elon doesn't need me to defend him.
