Mobil 1 3309 atf fluid (I'm assuming you are talking about an automatic transmission); they don't say anything about the "body" of the fluid with regards to ATF

If you have a 4x4, the front diff and the transfer case can use 75w90 gear oil. The rear uses 75w90 limited slip gear oil, which you can also use in the transfer case and front diff

4 if you gonna drain and refill

Filter will depend on the previous service history of the van.
If you changing the filter, get 5 quarts

If i recall correctly...their is nothing in the manual recommending transmission fluid or filter changes at any interval. Simply drain and refill the fluid in the pan (You will require 4 quarts). I don't bother with the filter (i think it is a glorified metal screen mesh).

forgot to mention the other multi-vehicle atf fluid alternatives (all the options listed below include Toyota type 4 somewhere on their label)
1. gulf multi-vehicle atf
2. Castrol import multivehicle atf
3. Valvoline max life Dex/merc now called multi vehicle atf
4. Red line D4

Exactly...car manufacturers do not make their own fluids!

Perhaps not, but a manufacturer branded oil will be specifically formulated for the application vs a multi vehicle oil.

Eg. Valvoline MaxLife ATF states compatible with Toyota Type IV and Toyota WS, yet Toyota themselves state WS is not backwards compatible with Type IV.
Same with Mazda M-V and FZ. The two are not compatible yet Valvoline says it covers both.

If its similarly priced and widely available, then why not use the Toyota oil?

Ok folks thanks. I will buy the Toyota brand.
It’s a diy so I will drain and refill. Will not bother about the filter.
Thanks again.

This was my logic.
All the ATF is around the same price.

As you mentioned it is a diy... You can search for my posts within the d4d tech thread.

Toyota doesn't make fluid, yet it has their branding. They didn't make the transmission either (they do own a majority share of the company, AISIN, that did though)
AISIN transmissions are found in BMW, VW, GM, Suzuki and other manufacturers vehicles. If I find out that VW G-055-025-A2 and Toyota type IV are made to the same spec, I'm choosing the cheapest one. I shy away from those multivehicle ATFs; I do use them if nothing more application specific can be found

All that said and I recommend you use whatever makes you sleep easy at night.
