Saw a drive through vaccination spot set up at the nagar site.

What's the procedure to get through there? Still letters of your surname?

Hundreds of vaccinated Indonesian health workers get COVID-19, dozens in hospital

https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-paci ... 2021-06-17

JAKARTA, June 17 (Reuters) - More than 350 doctors and medical workers have caught COVID-19 in Indonesia despite being vaccinated with Sinovac and dozens have been hospitalised, officials said, as concerns grow about the efficacy of some vaccines against more infectious variants.

Most of the workers were asymptomatic and self-isolating at home, said Badai Ismoyo, head of the health office in the district of Kudus in central Java, but dozens were in hospital with high fevers and falling oxygen-saturation levels.

Kudus, which has about 5,000 healthcare workers, is battling an outbreak believed to be driven by the more transmissible Delta variant, which has raised its bed occupancy rates above 90%.

Designated as a priority group, healthcare workers were among the first to be vaccinated when inoculations began in January.

Almost all have received the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac, the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) says.

While the number of Indonesian healthcare workers dying from COVID-19 has dropped sharply from 158 in January to 13 in May, according to data initiative group LaporCOVID-19, public health experts say the Java hospitalisations are cause for concern.

"The data shows they have the Delta variant (in Kudus) so it is no surprise that the breakthrough infection is higher than before, because, as we know, the majority of healthcare workers in Indonesia got Sinovac, and we still don’t know yet how effective it is in the real world against the Delta variant,” said Dicky Budiman, an epidemiologist at Australia's Griffith University.

A spokesperson from Sinovac was not immediately available for comment on the efficacy of the Chinese firm's CoronaVac against newer variants of the virus.

The World Health Organization (WHO) approved emergency use of Sinovac's vaccine this month, saying results showed it prevented symptomatic disease in 51% of recipients and prevented severe COVID-19 and hospital stays. read more

As Indonesia grappled with one of Asia's worst outbreaks, with over 1.9 million infections and 53,000 deaths, its doctors and nurses have suffered a heavy toll of 946 deaths.

Many are now experiencing pandemic fatigue and taking a less vigilant approach to health protocols after being vaccinated, said Lenny Ekawati, from the independent health-linked data group LaporCOVID-19.

Across Indonesia, at least five doctors and one nurse have died from COVID-19 despite being vaccinated, according to LaporCOVID-19, although one had only received a first shot.

Siti Nadia Tarmizi, a senior health ministry official, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on how many doctors have died since the vaccination program began.

In Kudus, one senior doctor has died, said IDI.

Nadia said there had been no deaths in Kudus since a new outbreak began in the past several weeks among medical workers and that those who contracted COVID-19 have had mild symptoms.

In Jakarta, the capital, radiologist Dr Prijo Sidipratomo told Reuters he knew of at least half a dozen doctors hospitalised with COVID-19 in the past month despite being vaccinated, with one now being treated in an ICU.

"It is alarming for us because we cannot rely on vaccinations only," he said, urging people to take precautions.

Weeks after the Muslim Eid Al-Fitr holidays, Indonesia has experienced a surge in cases, with the positivity rate exceeding 23% on Wednesday and daily cases nearing 10,000, its highest since late February.

In its latest report, the WHO urged Indonesia to tighten its lockdown amid increased transmission and a surge in bed occupancy rates.

Chinavacs don't stop the spread, they basically just make Covid mild or asymptomatic (which will save your life) but unless everyone gets vaccinated, a country using Chinavacs will continue to have outbreaks.

That is a good article DPD and thank you for posting it.

Many are now experiencing pandemic fatigue and taking an increasingly laissez-faire approach to health protocols after being vaccinated, said Lenny Ekawati, from LaporCOVID-19.

“That phenomenon happens quite often these days, not only within the community but also healthcare workers,” she said, “They think because they are vaccinated that they are safe.”

That was weeks ago.

Today there was a huge drive through vaccination setup causing traffic on that stretch of road.

Is it the same TTMA just continuing?

as u can see the excuse is that its the unvaccinated that cause this. LOL. You cannot make this sheit up. What the unvaccinated have to do with those who vaccinated still getting the virus? Doesn't that just mean that maybe idk the vaccine not as good as initially promised?

For the million and 7th time, a vaccine doesn't prevent you from contracting the disease, it helps your immune system fight it faster and easier without serious consequences, i.e. hospitalization or worse. I fed up read people saying the same thing over and over and over like they just cannot understand this concept.

all depends on WHICH vaccine. mRNA does both. dat is why mericans taking off dey masks and getting rid of ALL restrictions. and the 95% efficacy doesn't mean the 5% will spread it. the data shows even those cases have a much lower viral load so most don't spread it.

all hail pfizer/moderna

well they did say deaths are down sharply (158 in January to 13 in May). so the sinovac working.

my takeaway from the article is these inactivated-virus vaccines, at least in the short term, reduce deaths and hospitalizations at a population level, but won't give anyone a get-out-of-pandemic card like the mRNA vaccines do.

What about the death rate of HCW vs those HCW who received the vaccine?

Late in the evening you may be able to walk in, if they have extras on the day. A few days they were allowing walk ins, but you have to wait till all the appointments or names on the lists are done.

they ignore that fact as it doesn't suit their narrative. We obviously know that the vaccine doesn't mean u fully protected. The irony is that the government and media have fooled ya'll into thinking so. But when these things happen its an indication that the vaccine appears to be as effective as a placebo.

I hear you saying the same thing the pro vaccine people pushing. But is this how vaccines always worked? When we took yellow fever, MMR etc we never got these diseases at any level. I myself have 15 vaccines, no room on my card... the vaccines do expire. But if I have a tetanus vaccine... i dont expect to get tetanus but live to fight it off in hospital.

Yes this is how vaccine always worked. I explained it in detail here, the mechanism of protection against illnesses: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=755959&p=10160892#p10160892
TLDR; Vaccines aren't a magic force shield. The virus/bacteria still enters your body (this is obvious when you actually think about it), but your body responds and eliminates it before it has a chance to get a foothold to replicate and overwhelm your entire system. Most people don't have a reaction besides an unnoticeable slight overnight fever if it works well. Sometimes you do get sick, but bounce back in a few days with good protein nutrition, i.e. mama's delicious chicken soup.

Tetanus requires a 10 year booster shot. It comes as a DPT shot mixed with 2 other vaccines. Many vaccines require booster shots as time passes, to remind your body how to produce antibodies quickly when it does encounter the real thing: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/adults/rec-vac/index.html

The caveat here with Covid-19, just like various influenza viruses, is that they mutate quickly and spread even more virulently. Different vaccines developed at the start need to be updated, hence annual flu shots. The Delta variant of the Covid is the worst one yet, and simpler vaccines like Sinopharm and Sinovac weren't developed with that in mind because they're using old methods and technology of inactivated viruses for antibody identification. That means the antibodies are keyed to identify the whole virus structure as the intruder. It's sort of a lock and key mechanism. Only 1 key fits the lock. You see how variants can possibly get past there. mRNA and other types work well against variants because they use a spike protein of the virus for identification. Therefore the entire virus shape is irrelevant; only the spike needs to be identified for antibodies to start fighting it effectively. Like a bump key.

The takeaway is that right now as the pandemic rages, any vaccine is better than none, and as time passes vaccines will be updated and others will become available. The most important goal is to get some vaccination herd immunity within a population to stop the spread as quickly as possible to avoid even more mutations. After that, as global travel opens back governments need to consider annual vaccination programmes with different types of vaccines so to arrest the current global variants. Next year the world will be glut with mRNA and other types to take privately before traveling. Novavax-CoV2373 seems to be quite promising because it keys for up to 14 different protein spikes. When you took yellow fever and MMR vaccines, herd immunity already existed so it's unlikely that you ever encountered those viruses at all. If you ever took a seasonal flu vaccine and went to USA or Canada during the winter (increased indoor interaction), it was more likely to encounter that influenza virus because there was no herd immunity and perhaps got a reaction which you easily dismissed. Or maybe you got sick which you thought was "the cold" and luckily you survived.

I hope you understood my explanation. Please feel free to ask if anything is unclear.

I disagree with this being a good takeaway. it is important to know the differences and limitations of the one you got. I'm watching the NBA playoffs right now and there's more people there than at a Carnival fete and they are drinking, partying and a minority are wearing masks. How can they do that? Because the vaccines are different. If we try that stunt, we will create a superspreader event and push the country back into lockdown and collapse the economy and cause political and social upheaval to a level the island might never recover from. Why? Because the vaccines are different and that difference needs to be communicated by the Ministry in a clear, politically-agnostic manner.
