How do I get a house number?

Postby Musical Doc » June 29th, 2020, 10:25 am

Hey Tuners,

So I recently built my house on a piece of land given to me by my dad. Originally it was a big piece of land which he split between 3 children and when it was divided it was named on the deeds as 1A, 1B and 1C, the latter being my piece. This land is located to the end of the street but if I use the 1C address, TT Post gets confused because 1 would indicate the beginning of the street which is about 3km away. My brother who built on 1A said when he was building his house some govt people passed and questioned him. Later on he went to some TT Post seminar in the regional corporation and they were able to pull up his land and get his new house number which turned out to be 278.

So where would I be able to go to get my actual house #?

You need to speak to TTPost.

I have a similar situation where #6 was divided and then addressed into 6, 6B, 6C by TTPost.

Maybe it's not the best place to ask this, but I live at an intersection, and people always have trouble finding my address. I want to order a nice, modern, accessible house number, but I don't know any place or website. Do you have any recommendations?

Bhagwansingh’s in Piarco sells the numbers that you can mount on your gate post.

Take a look online for a sign maker.

DSG and Signpost come to mind.

My house was built after TTPOST allocated numbers to the already existing houses.

I called TTPOST to ask for the number as my neighbors received their number years ago so I know it was allocated. TTPOST said they don't know and a Field Officer will visit and leave a card in the gate with the information.

Months passed, nothing happened and then I called back TTPOST and they said to use whatever I want once it's unique and the mail will be delivered - so I did that and have no problems at all.

Note:
My neighbors still use their old address (linked to banks, TTEC, etc etc). and all are linked to the same LP but the houses are differentiated by surname. - that's the current situation. For me, I choose a number, placed it on my gate and that was it.

Good Luck and if you do decide to choose a number, try to get a number that's very high like 999 so you know that no one else in the street can possibly have it.

^ I have the same issue both me and my neighbor using the pole number for the addresses but the surnames of the mailboxes are different for differentiation purposes when mail is delivered. I however got my house number from TTPOST when they did their exercise a few years ago but it requires alot of work to go through changing all the addresses with the utility services and banking so it was left so for now.

Why not use the same number with a B?

I get the struggle with house numbers at tricky locations. I've had good luck with a site that offers a variety of modern, customizable options that could help make your address stand out more clearly. It's worth checking out https://www.modernhousenumbers.com/ for some sleek designs that are both stylish and functional. They've got a range of materials and styles that could really complement your home's aesthetic at a very good price.
