Government Contract

Postby supercharged turbo » February 21st, 2020, 10:57 pm

As general elections are approaching, there are bound to be many suspicious contracts given to benefit party financiers and friends/family that might only be revealed to the public if the government changes.

It had me wondering what are some of the things companies bidding on government contracts or any contracts as a matter of fact take in to consideration to arrive at their price? After reading a few articles awhile back showing what some contractors bid to complete roadworks, there was sometimes a significant gap in bids over 100 million dollars LESS than the next contractor. Is this plain out greed by the other contractors or can they account for this?

Lets say there was a contract to resurface the Caroni Savannah road from the corner where Bajnath Sports Centre(Club India carpark) was to Nicks's Cafe/Tuner Imports. What are some of the things you would take into consideration to arrive at your price?

*DISCLAIMER*-THE EXAMPLE ABOVE IS HYPOTHETICAL AND I DON'T HAVE ANY CONTRACT/S.

Always consida d 10% dat goes to the minista. So put dat in over what yuh making.

And consida yuh ain’t collectin all money in d time you feel, some a dem contractor waiting months and a 2 years for payment. Act as if yuh wukkin all dat time and need to live and put de budget up to dat amount (even if de wuk is ah 3 months) and den slap ah contingency cost (20%) and ah interest (3% every month) on dat final figga.

Oh yeh, and make sure your mobilization is de actual budget (that wod let yuh finish d wuk and pay yuh boys and the minista nice). Dat way yuh covered when dey pay late and (god forbid) if he government change (then yuh go see stress). :drinking: :drinking:

Sauce: local bar crawl piper on d avenue :agrue:

There are many considerations that would not occur to the layman. You need to talk to a road works engineer to determine the assessment and scope of work required. Paving the road correctly is not a simple or cheap thing. And every job would be different. This means a company specialized in the particular job required. The project manager in the Ministry has to account for every dollar spent and go over every quote given and know and compare the current market value of each job.

At the end of the day, once the papers sign it have nothing any of us ordinary citizens can question about it and its true value. Are we all engineers specialized in roadworks to exclaim "that highway cost a billion dollars?!!" I really don't think the OP question can be answered properly here.

And then there is the issue of the contractors doing to jobs on their own money and the government not paying. It have millions of dollars owing to contractors all over the country for various jobs backdating 5 years and thing, and like the Government has no intention of paying. Not just construction... food catering, school transport, etc.

Lol right now it have endless contractors who do work for peoples partnership and eh get paid 5 years later and fighting up in court. Equipment get seized, house get seized by bank

Its a massive gamble to do work right before an election.
