Damn RIP if true. Had a few disputes with him over the years but he was a good guy.

And I'm guessing that's what's the vaccine supposed to be doing

The vaccine's side effects will feel like you're fighting a virus because that's your immune system responding. It will be less harsh for older people as they don't have a such a strong response.

Given the numbers right now, there's a strong possibility that many people had covid already (pre or asymptomatic) while getting the vaccine, hence developing covid-19 after getting it.

Also, the vaccination centers are filled with people and you're indoors for an hour or more, high chance of picking it up there even if masks are worn given the high virality of the P1 strain.

Lastly, the P1 variant can definitely re-infect someone who has had covid previously, it's been noted that a lot of the cases in Brazil were re-infections.

Hopefully the criminally late start we got with respect to vaccinations will catch up as vaccines become available. It's not automatic, as the US/EU continue to hoard and buy more than their populations either to ensure booster shot supplies, or to engage in "vaccine influencing"
