Despite the presence of thousands of people - many without masks and not appearing to adhere to COVID-19 social-distancing protocols - in the Grand Stand for a soca concert on Thursday night, police have said they have received no reports that Public Health Regulations were breached.

Despite this, video and photos of the show ‘Vibes with Voicey’ were subject to strong condemnation by many on social media yesterday, with many predicting a post-Carnival spike in COVID-19 cases as a result of the activity.

The concert was headlined by Aaron “Voice” St Louis and featured performances by Nadia Batson, Nailah Blackman, Mical Teja, GBM Nutron, Farmer Nappy, Lyrikal, KI and Jamaican dancehall artiste Kranium.

But in an interview with Guardian Media yesterday, Public Information Officer of the T&T Police Service, Sheridon Hill, said there were no reports of any breaches of the Public Health Regulations at the event.

Hill said he was informed of this by Senior Superintendent of the Port of Spain Division-Brandon John.

“He said there were no reports of that nature,” Hill said.

Hill could not say how many officers would have been at the event.

Asked if police could have shut down the event if there were breaches of the regulations, Hill said that would most likely only be done in a case where extreme measures were needed to preserve life and safety.

“It would have to be an extreme situation, police officers can make judgement calls and to shut down an event would depend on the circumstances. It would also depend on the senior officer who is present, I don’t think that is a decision any officer would take lightly,” Hill said.

The Health Ministry will temporarily suspend the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccination Programme from Tuesday March 1st, 2022, and stock will be pulled back from the system. Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said this is because the current stock is due to expire on Monday February 28th, 2022. The 260,000 doses of the expired Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines will be incinerated.

Minister Deyalsingh confirmed that a shipment of 75,000 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines is expected in T&T the following week, after which the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccination and Booster Programme will resume.

The COVID-19 Booster Programme continues with the other brands of vaccines (Sinopharm, J&J etc.). The Health Minister said about 1,000 people are receiving their COVID-19 boosters per day, . However, he lamented the slow pace of the COVID-19 Vaccination Drive in Schools. So far, only 38 students have received the vaccine under this Drive.

In answering a question on the operations at Safe Zone Carnival events, the Health Minister reminded that:

Only vaccinated persons are allowed.

Patrons must be masked unless eating/drinking.

50% capacity at the event.

The Owner/Operator has responsibility of the event.

The TTPS is responsible for ensuring there are no breaches of the Public Health Regulations.

the 'discharge criteria for VOC' means they in state quarantine?

and i guess we can expect another wave reaching past 1000 cases per day.

If anyone wants to see what goes on in the Covid hospitals watch Homefront on CNC3 weekdays at 4pm.
They go and interview patients on camera.

Hover and the like especially.

red,

Carnival Cow Pen 2022 is on and the citizens are braying wildly.

The cases and death toll appears to have NO concern from the general population.

What ever “going on” in the Covid hospitals can’t be that bad……clearly.

Covid has to sweep through the population for it to end. Half the citizens decide they not vaccinating so herd immunity not going to happen. Better everything be normal now and whoever get sick get sick and we move on

50% jabbed and 20-25% infected

not counting persons who are past 6 months antibody waning

With the reproduction rate hovering around 1.0, it is unlikely that cases or deaths will change in the near future.

perhaps so. we very lucky is omicron which not affecting the lungs except in a few ppl. vs the dreaded delta

but that few ppl is still 5-10 a day, which is roughly 2500 more dead by year end if it continues at that rate- if the public sector safe zone is actually make law soon hopefully it will bring up vax numbers- yes it wont be elderly u saving but all the fat unhealthy ones that will still take up hospital beds.

they really need to stop dat chit. They close down the whole office after one person in an office get covid. If they keep doing that, the whole country will be plagued with on/off closures forever because it is a forking endemic virus now.

and that press release itself is chit. The infected person is in isolation, not quarantine. Everybody else is in quarantine and likely got more exposure at the FETE AT NAPARIMA BOWL THEY WENT TO LAST WEEK

we seriously need to rationalize ALL these covid protocols

step 1: go to a FETE in a SAFE ZONE and get covid

step2: close down the entire office under covid protocols, because somebody get covid

going to a fete is a choice. going to work isn't, unless the place is closed down everyone is exposed - although someone tested +ve 3 weeks ago in my office and we all continued working, including the coworkers sitting diagonally opposite from the person. she did say he was only in the office briefly and wearing a mask and went home -so i doh know if that's why they didnt bother to quarantine ppl.

You don't understand the difference between pandemic, epidemic and endemic. Worldwide outbreaks? Pandemic.

You don't understand the difference between quarantine and isolation. Not ill? Quarantine.
