If one is found, how quickly could it be made available?
Realistically it is going to be mid-way through next year at best.
So there are vaccines being tested in animals, if that goes well there could be human trials later in the year. But even if scientists can celebrate having developed a vaccine before Christmas there is still the massive job of being able to mass-produce it.
All of this is happening on a unprecedented timescale and using new approaches to vaccines so there are no guarantees everything will go smoothly.
Remember there are four coronaviruses that already circulate in human beings. They cause the common cold and we don't have vaccines for any of them
Israeli scientists are on the cusp of developing the first vaccine against the novel coronavirus, according to Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis. If all goes as planned, the vaccine could be ready within a few weeks and available in 90 days, according to a release.
“Congratulations to MIGAL [The Galilee Research Institute] on this exciting breakthrough,” Akunis said. “I am confident there will be further rapid progress, enabling us to provide a needed response to the grave global COVID-19 threat,” Akunis said, referring to the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Pope Francis has come down with a “slight indisposition,” forcing him to cancel a planned Mass in Rome, just a day after he expressed his solidarity with coronavirus sufferers around the world — and as the disease continues to spread across Italy.
The illness has forced the 82-year-old pontiff to nix a penitential Mass, marking the start of Lent, that he’d planned to celebrate at the St. John Lateran basilica across town with Roman clergy, the Vatican said.
Francis will proceed with the rest of his planned work Thursday, but “preferred to stay near Santa Marta,” the Vatican hotel where he lives, officials said.
The Vatican has not specified the nature of the pope’s illness, but he was seen coughing and blowing his nose during Ash Wednesday Mass.

Dog in Hong Kong tests positive for ‘low level’ of coronavirus
The pet dog of a coronavirus patient in Hong Kong was found to have a “low level” of the deadly virus, the autonomous region’s government said Friday.
The pooch’s oral and nasal cavities were tested Wednesday, with the results showing a “weak positive” to the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19.
Health officials are not sure if the dog, which is not exhibiting any symptoms, is actually infected or just carrying the virus in its mouth and nose from “environmental contamination.”
“At present, the [Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department] does not have evidence that pet animals can be infected with COVID-19 virus or can be a source of infection to people,” Hong Kong’s government said in a press release.

BREAKING
Iran death toll could be as high as 210
At least 210 Covid-19 patients have died in Iran, sources within the country's health care system have told BBC Persian.
toyolink wrote:As others have suggested before, the really worrying aspect of this 'virus' is the fact that there is no clear-cut approach to treating someone who is afflicted.
So far the statistics suggest that the elderly and others with underlying health challenges such as asthma, diabetes, cancer are at high risk.
One report seems to indicate that children under 9yrs and in good health seem to be handling this virus the best.
Thus far all we can do is be vigilant and do not dismiss everything as a simple 'cold'.

Health Infrastructure Breakdown in Venezuela
Warning - Level 3, Avoid Nonessential Travel
Alert - Level 2, Practice Enhanced Precautions
Watch - Level 1, Practice Usual Precautions
Key Points
CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel to Venezuela.
The country is experiencing outbreaks of infectious diseases, and adequate health care is currently not available in most of the country.
If you must travel to Venezuela, then protect yourself by following CDC’s recommendations (below).
What is the current situation?
There has been a breakdown of the medical infrastructure in Venezuela. There are shortages of food, water, electricity, medicine, and medical supplies that have contributed to an increasing humanitarian crisis affecting much of the country. Adequate health care is currently not available through the public health system in Venezuela. For this reason, in addition to crime and civil unrest, the US government has limited ability to provide emergency services to US citizens. Please visit the Department of State Travel Advisory for Venezuela for more information.
Infectious diseases are on the rise, and several large outbreaks are occurring:
