some of us are essential workers max. coming from work. if i leave POS 7:30pm i reaching home Arima by 8:15 or b4. but if u have a roadblock for an hour causing me to be on the road at 9:01PM then that amounts to entrapment. if u going after speeding drivers u set up a SPEED TRAP to catch them, u don't stop ALL drivers- what u going to do - measure the speed of drivers doing 0 kph?
or DUI. if a driver swerving then pull aside THAT driver - not everyone else.
Yeh topmanjp i know bro.
What i am saying is that with all them cars on the road, all of them cyannot be essential pa.

Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
Earlier this week, a story was published in a daily newspaper about Tevin Ashton, an 18 year old man who was arrested on Sunday at 11:30 PM for breaching the curfew.
Despite it being very clear in the article that his lawyer said that he was on his way, riding his bicycle, to visit his sick mother, AFTER Ashton pleaded guilty, and the lawyer did so in an attempt to plead for leniency in sentencing for his client, before the Magistrate, the usual 'All yuh too Wicked' crowd ran with it and had the worse things to say about the TTPS.
Rather surprisingly however, many other more rational persons joined in to bash the TTPS, and it is for this reason we are sharing some facts which were not disclosed prior.
Before his arrest, Ashton was observed by officers in the company of 3 other persons who were also riding bicycles, all of whom were in breach of the curfew, which had begun some FOUR AND A HALF HOURS earlier.
Officers, duty-bound to enforce the Emergency Powers Regulations, pursued the group, but was only able to capture Ashton.
Upon his arrest, Ashton told officers he was "going to check ah pardner, Maddy", and no mention of going to visit his sick mother occured.
Had he done so, not only would officers immediately transport him to his mother, and offer further assistance if required, they would not have arrested Ashton, even if he had not accessed our curfew hotline numbers, to acquire a temporary pass, because they would have been guided by the directives issued by Commissioner Griffith to treat with emergency situations by using their discretion, and to act with utmost urgency.
It should also be noted that Magistrate Dwayne Murray chastised both Ashton and his lawyer for inconsistencies in the story, with the most glaring being that, when caught, Ashton was actually riding in the opposite direction to his mother's house.
In conclusion, the TTPS understands the emotional cords pulled with a story of a young man 'heroically' saving his sick mother, but cautions right thinking citizens to be aware of those with agendas who latch on to any story to attempt to achieve gains.
As Commissioner Griffith has repeatedly said, officers are not robots, they have feelings like everyone else, but they are also trained to get to the truth. In this case they acted appropriately and achieved the goal of the SoE, which is to prevent gathering, as we continue to battle this deadly pandemic.
