My perspective on this may be a lonely one.... but
from what i know i believe the Imam's intention in the 90's was always pure and based on the teachings of Islam.
His real problem started with the deportees he had on his team; while he was adamant about destroying the cocaine they seized from the blocks back then the deportees started showing them younger fellas how to make money from the seized products. Plenty of our present problems originated from back then.

we are living the end result now

if a soldier had pulled a trigger when he stepped out of ttt that day things might have been much different now
secondly if justice brooks had some balls he woulda rule against bakr but instead he chicken out and only decades later did the privy council rule for us but too little too late

who remembers the almost daily reports of "ex-muslimeen member held" for murder, robbery, kidnapping etc ?
how did an imam with no real job come to own 31 properties in and around pos ?

I live in woodbrook all my life and know many of the neighbourhood pipers and characters etc,
they would talk of how easy to go in the mosque and meet others and the recruitment

But he's right about the disconnect between those in power and the population. Interesting was his analogy of the balance wherein he suggested that the few who continue to accumulate all the the wealth of the country don't realise they're "going down" while remainder "going up".
