They will have to see consistent rain for a few weeks before those restrictions are lifted. I figure July.

This is odd, because the bad weather we experienced on the 8th of this month only yielded 0.3mm of rainfall, with this weekend yielding 28mm, bringing us from 0.2% of the 30 year May average to almost 23% in two days.

To my knowledge, the WASA restrictions don't end automatically when the Rainy Season is declared, but I've never seen the official notice that it has been relaxed. What I do know, is that Caroni is currently the only reservoir at over 75% capacity, so it may be some time before the restrictions are lifted.
Hope this was helpful.

WASA restrictions officially end on June 30th.

Water Use Restrictions Begin 1st March

The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) advises customers and the general public that in keeping with its 2022 Dry Season Water Supply Management Plan, effective midnight Tuesday 1st March, until 30th June 2022, the use of hosepipes and any similar apparatus for the purpose of, among other things watering private gardens and or washing private motor cars, will be prohibited in accordance with the Water and Sewerage Act Chapter 54:40 of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago (the “Act”).

Customers and the general public are further notified that, under the Act, the Authority has the responsibility for administering the supply of water and promoting the conservation and proper use of water resources. In particular, the Act provides for the following:

Upon giving notice to the public, the Authority may prohibit or restrict the use of its water supplied through a hosepipe or similar apparatus for the purpose of watering gardens or washing motor vehicles. This includes the use of sprinklers, pressure washers, as well as decorative fountains, waterfalls and other outdoor artistic features that utilize water.
The Act places responsibility on the owner/occupier of any premises to maintain and keep any water fittings in good condition so that the water supplied to those premises will not be wasted, misused or unduly consumed or contaminated before use.
The prohibition of any owner or occupier of any premises supplied with water by the Authority, to supply or permit another person to take any of that water for use in other premises.
The prohibition of any person from taking, using or diverting water from a reservoir, water course, conduit, pipe or other apparatus belonging to the Authority.
The prohibition of any person from willfully or negligently operating or otherwise interfering with any valve or other apparatus belonging to and utilized by the Authority for supplying water.
The prohibition of any person from attaching any pipe or apparatus or making any alteration to any pipe belonging to the Authority.
Customers and the general public should note that upon the production of authenticated documents, authorized officers of the Authority have the general power to enter any premises supplied with water at all reasonable hours in order to examine if there is any waste or misuse of such water.

Any person who breaches this prohibition is liable to a fine upon summary conviction. There will be increased patrols by the Authority to ensure compliance with this ban.

The Authority asks that the public complies with this prohibition and looks forward to your cooperation.

Met Office predicts erratic, volatile wet season

The Met Office has put the government and other agencies on high alert, as this year's wet season is expected to be a volatile and erratic one.

At a virtual 2022 wet season outlook on Tuesday morning, meteorologist Kenneth Kerr said there is a 47 per cent chance of the formation of four storms in the region – three with the potential of becoming hurricanes.

Kerr also said the rainfall outlook, of between 110-112 wet days, bringing a 30 per cent chance of extreme rainfall for several days, suggested this season would be wetter than normal.

"It also suggests that the wettest month, August, and the flood-prone month, October, have good possibilities of rainfall exceeding 250 millimetres, which is more than average. "

He said in Port of Spain, some part of east and central Trinidad along with Tobago west may experience moderate to severe flooding.

"Flood potential is much higher for known and emerging flood areas. Citizens are asked to accelerate preparations."

The Met Office also recommended that disaster preparedness agencies and emergency response units use the first three months of the season to prepare.

The country can also expect a few hot spells, sometime between September and early October, with temperatures climbing to 35 degrees C.

The Met Office officially declared the start of the wet season on Monday. Hurricane season starts on June 1.

Absolutely right!

But it's Wasa and according to my brother Hook as was inferred, if they don't get the rainfall to bring the levels up, we would be going into the next dry season at a disadvantage.

Given the state of our drains, rivers and retention ponds our circumstances this year during the 'erratic' rainy season as predicted by the met office is going to be distressing for many citizens.
Citizens living on unstable slopes who have been waiting for retention walls etc. need to prepare to mitigate losses.
Street dwellers need to vacate the east dry river.

Looking west right now and the sky grey-brown with dust! I have to wear a mask right through this.
The Sahara Dust map looks very gritty right now.
