Wtk: Anything better than minwax for outdoor greenheart

Postby Closeout Deals » December 16th, 2018, 2:04 pm

Only getting about 2- 4 months with minwax for a wood panel gate. Is there anything better locally that can last a long time without fading?

I used epoxy sealing and a marine varnish for teak pool furniture that we owned. It weathered better than polyurethane.

I use Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane on a greenheart pergola and get years before refinishing. And it's on the eastern / windward side of the house. The Satin finish lasts longer than the gloss and looks better too IMO. Try multiple coats with a brush.

Hey Duane, how did you get that dark finish. Was it the spar urethane?

I used Minwax spar urethane on outdoor teak and got a year at most, Sherwin Williams Superdeck...4 months on green heart and teak.

On to Flood CWF-UV5 now on both green heart and teak after using it successfully on outdoor Pine. Its going on 3 years on the pine with no appreciable degradation.

no I used Sissons American Walnut wood stain and wiped it on with a cloth. The Spar urethane is clear satin.

WOW! Just looked at a youtube video timelapse of 14 months of a deck plank coated with Flood CWF-UV5 and it's impressive!

Will definitely try that next.

Where did you get that in T&T?

At Peakes Home Store. Don't know how it will last on the greenheart yet as it was only applied this week.
