What I find real hypocritical is Moonilal throwing shade about horn using the term "your hornerable" in the Monday Night Forum but "allegedly" he is in the Ramada in Guyana with his outside woman on a routine basis.

How the pot go call the kettle black ??

Threats have reportedly been made against Kelly Village/Warrenville councillor Samuel Sankar.

Sankar did not want to reveal the source of the threats yesterday but said he has made an official police complaint against those who have threatened him. He denied also claims he was planning to cross the floor.

Sankar claimed that since the story broke that he had attended the meeting, he had been facing ridicule by many. He said he was removed from party’s WhatsApp groups and has been faced with vile messages and threats.

COPS QUIZ MP :
$1.4m tax exemption on $2.3m Mercedes-Benz...

The police probe is to determine whether Lee used the exemptions to benefit a South-based businessman and UNC financier, and whether Lee was ever in possession of the vehicle.

Deputy political leader of the United National Congress (UNC) David Lee has been questioned by police in connection with the purchase of a $2.3 million Mercedes-Benz, and whether the $1.4 million in tax exemptions derived may have benefited a party financier.

Lee, who is also the Pointe-a-Pierre Member of Parliament, was questioned by detectives of the Financial Investigation Branch (FIB) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service last week Monday, in connection with the purchase the Mercedes-Benz AMG G 63 valued at $2,344,752.16.

The interview took place at the FIB’s Waterfront office, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.

The Sunday Express understands the investigation surrounding Lee involves his parliamentary privilege of exemption from paying taxes on the purchase of a vehicle.

Lee was granted exemptions in the sum of $1,416,292.65 for the purchase of the Benz. That exemption was granted on May 23, 2019, and included $293,094.02 in value added tax (VAT), $298,650 in motor vehicle tax and $824,548.63 in Customs duty.

The police probe is to determine whether Lee used the exemptions to benefit a South-based businessman and UNC financier, and whether Lee was ever in possession of the vehicle.

The businessman, who is also a licensed firearms dealer, is expected back in the country later this week, when he will be interviewed by police.

All Members of Parliament are exempt from paying motor vehicle tax, VAT and Customs duties on new or used vehicles imported every two years under the Salaries Review Commission (SRC).

'Plate of food politics'...Devant slams Family Day support by some

From left, ex-minister Kevin Ramnarine, former High Commissioner to Nigeria under the PP government Nyahuma Obika and UNC leader Kamla Persad- Bissessar at last Friday’s UNC’s Family Day.

“Plate of food politics!”

With that accusation, former United National Congress stalwart Dr Devant Maharaj has slammed some attendees of last Friday’s UNC Family Day, whom he alleged included someone who recently wrote to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley about UNC Senator Anil Roberts’ claims on Rowley’s wife.

Maharaj said via a statement that the event was held under the patronage of UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar “who found the time to attend” despite her absence from Parliament, certain UNC Monday Night forums and media events.

“What was interesting was to see in attendance some of those who were recently as a few days ago, decrying leadership under her command and that this ‘only secures personal power and position in Opposition’.

“The disappointing presence of these individuals previously opposed to Kamla underscores why UNC’s thinking members will be estranged from the party,” Maharaj said.

He queried if it was a perception that the People’s National Movement Government is so unpopular, the public “...will hold their nose and vote UNC that they (attendees) want to jump on the bandwagon to pay down on a political office or board position?”

Maharaj alleged: “One attendee, a Kamla iconoclast, was recently penning a missive to Prime Minister Dr Rowley on the vulgar and despicable rant of Senator Anil Roberts regarding Sharon Rowley. Yet this same individual was photographed grinning from ear to ear turning a pot.”

He alleged this was “under the gaze” of the leader against whom “venom was spewed hours before.”

“Another ex-minister was photographed...watching longingly at the political leader, perhaps hoping to once again be counted for political office.

“Most of these persons were actively part of internal elections against Kamla’s leadership. The Plate of Food Politics lure, however, appears to be stronger than their principles and moral grandstanding.”

He said he knew he wouldn’t have seen Ganga Singh, Jack Warner or Vasant Bharath stirring a curry duck pot and he could understand the presence of UNC’s Roodal Moonilal and Tim Gopeesingh there.

“But it’s difficult to know what intellectual gymnastics my friends Larry Lalla, Kevin Ramnarine or Kiel Taklalsingh underwent in their respective political lobotomies.

“Is it that the aim of removing Kamla remains the same but the strategy has changed now to ‘if you can’t beat them join them’?” he asked.

Maharaj claimed the lime which followed UNC’s boycott of the Local Government consultation “was calculated political design to remind all that if they hope to return to office, they must continuously, blindly genuflect to the leader.”

Lalla: UNC must move on for good of T&T

Attorney Larry Lalla says it’s time to move on from the United National Congress’ 2020 leadership election defeat, since there must now be a meeting of the minds to find common ground to take T&T forward out of its many difficulties.

He indicated this yesterday after his attendance at last Friday’s UNC’s Family Day sparked queries, as Lalla was among Vasant Bharath’s team in his (unsuccessful) 2020 leadership battle with leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

UNC’s Devant Maharaj, who’d supported Bharath, has slammed the Family Day attendance by Lalla and others, whom he said had been critical of Persad-Bissessar’s leadership.

Defending his attendance, Lalla said he’d never stopped liaising with the UNC.

“At the end of the day, I’m a member—I never ceased being a member,” he said.
“Yes I opposed Persad-Bissessar in previous elections (with Bharath) but the elections are over. It’s now time to move on. I have nothing personal against any person in any previous election. Therefore, if I’m invited to a function and I have time, I’ll attend regardless of what anyone thinks of me, because at the end of the day, the country comes first.”

He added, “There are so many difficulties facing T&T presently—from crime and the economy to youths leaving in droves as they don’t see hope for the future. It’s important where possible for there to be a meeting of the minds to find a way to take T&T forward.

“To achieve that and find common ground to do so, I’m not going to close my mind on this to anyone in my party. I always believe there are good people in both parties and if there are people with good ideas in the PNM—of which I’m sure there are —we have to listen to them as well, because at the end of the day we all have to live here together and have to find a way to take T&T forward together.”

On vitriolic personal attacks on the political landscape, Lalla said he didn’t see how any of those helped with T&T’s issues. He refused comment on UNC Senator Anil Roberts’ alleged comments on the Prime Minister’s wife but said it’s important to raise the level of discussions in T&T .

On crime, Lalla added, “It appears there are hired hitmen roaming T&T. That’s a serious issue for which the Police Commissioner must tell T&T what his plans are.”

Lalla said he wasn’t filing nomination for Local Government elections but was prepared to assist the UNC in any way possible. As for general election nomination, he said, “Why talk about that - that’s so far away.”

Another attendee, ex-minister Kevin Ramnarine said, “Political parties, like all organisations, bond in different ways. The Debe event was very positive and the atmosphere was welcoming.”

Attorney Kiel Taklalsingh said he was invited.

“I attended, I had a good time. Whoever didn’t attend missed out on some good curry duck and chow.”

Among the handful of UNC Parliamentarians who were absent, Mayaro MP Rushton Paray said he’d planned to attend but his elderly father was ill in hospital.

”He is 75—I had to be with him,” he said.

Cumuto Manzanilla MP Dr Rai Ragbir said his sister had a stroke.

“She is like a second mother to us and it was a second stroke so we’re watching the situation carefully. She’s walking with a cane,” Ragbir said.

Nobody in their right mind wants any more PNM. It says a lot about the UNC that people still considering voting PNM, and I am not referring to the die hard supporters, hence the bashing. If you fail to see why the UNC isn't considered not even the lesser evil, then u need to think long and hard...
