https://guardian.co.tt/news/unc-results ... 7029f3939c

United National Congress leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar got 11,556 votes and challenger Dr Fuad Khan received 644 in last Sunday’s UNC National Executive election.

This is according to the preliminary results of last Sunday’s party election. It was sent by UNC election team chairman Ramesh Persad-Maharaj on Tuesday. He’d said there was a low voter turnout due to the rains.

Persad-Bissessar received less votes in this leadership election than she received in the 2020 leadership election, where she was unsuccessfully challenged by Vasant Bharath. In the 2020 election, she received 14,873 votes and Bharath 2,193.

In the 2017 UNC internals, she won the leadership with 20,328 votes and in the 2015 elections she secured 17,502.

In the 2017 election race, she was challenged by Bharath, who dropped out, ex-MP Christine Newallo-Hosein and Chanda Baggan. She was challenged by UNC frontliner Roodal Moonilal in 2015.

Yesterday, Khan said, “(Last Sunday’s) results show that 644 people believe in change and an innovative approach to general election system change, which is in keeping with the population’s curve bell of intelligence. Generally, 95 per cent of people are followers, five per cent are usually early adopters of change and those who think. But the idea will be accepted in the future—it’s like new things and ideas introduced.”

“All go through that curve. They’re accustomed to keeping that status quo until it keeps failing. Winning was an impossibility. But a fair election wasn’t done—that’s the main issue and there was no need for unfairness as they could have won anyway,” Khan claimed, maintaining 12,000 votes were not cast and “4,000 votes came from the sky.”

The only way Kamla leaving UNC leadership is in handcuffs or a bodybag.Power is a hard taste to give up, especially now that she hit 70.She'll hold on to every last shred of power

At that point the grab for power will be interesting. Who do supporters see as the next leader ? Rudy or Sadaam ?

He should have owned it. We are in 2022 and Porn is not this taboo thing as it was in year gone by.
Instead his excuses and then his subsequent rant against Kejean Haynes reeked of stupidity.

Sounds very selfish. She knows she can't win an election anymore....there would be a better chance for someone else at the helm to win an election. Give up and move on for the betterment of the people.

Rudy!? LOL

Sadaam can pull it off but still green, maybe in the 2030s.

The best chance is actually Jerlean John. Once she weathers the "sell out", "token" and "lick bottom" assault that would surely come from pnmites, she will make it.

Ground level believe that KPB may be stepping down (rumshop talk if you ask me). I think John might be best to take over. Saddam and Vandana for future (like 10 more years in politics)

So who in the party has some kinda cross appeal? You don’t have to have wide spread cross appeal, just enough cross appeal to ascend to government. KPB had real cross appeal back in 2010, enough for her to gain office. Maybe out of all she still may be the best option which may not be good enough come 2025

Lutchmedial good but still green, she is for the 2030s with Saadam and Vandana. If there is a UNC win in that decade, I would not be surprised she is nominated as AG.

Jeralean John.

Remember the next UNC internal elections is 2024/2025 so if leadership changes, things would get interesting for the Generals.

ent have no internal election coming in 2024/2025.

Kamla will pull some stunt and say is an election year so we can't hold internals.

They need to put an Afro Trini as the next UNC leader and an INDO Trini as the next PNM leader. It's time to end the stigma of both these parties being predominantly of 1 race or the other.

LFD RFD PNM building a multi million dollar HQ claiming it will be funded by boat cruise and BBQ. Idiots like joe and the pet KYT4 take it without question. UNC doesn't have a HQ but are somehow more corrupt? LFD RFD PNM really is a kant cult yes!
