Real pie in the sky would be to build a dam and hydro electric plant
Of course these things require planning and building longer than the average election timeframe

No cheap quick fix here.

And everybody want the govt to pay.

No, your defense of the PNM won't work, if we look at the Wikipedia definition of a dam this is what we get

A dam is a barrier that stops or restricts the flow of water or underground streams. Reservoirs created by dams not only suppress floods but also provide water for activities such as irrigation, human consumption, industrial use, aquaculture, and navigability.

Now clearly we see that it is not the fault of the people but the fault of our incompetent and corrupt politicians. Which right now is the PNM, there is noway you can spin this one.

If they were serious they could easily lessen the huge impact of floods. We have a lot of excavators in this country, most park down doing absolutely nothing whatsoever, we could build anything we want.

Discussion is all well and fine but delusional you must be to think that our government actually intends to serve the people of this country rather than only themselves and who got them where they are.

Coonilal finally had to open his mouth and respond this week
their silence was beginning to get deafening

greenvale was a nice project for them
got into power with it partially rolling from previous administration
so they simply kept it rolling, constructed with haste and all the requisite kickbacks.

Excavators don't build dams...anymore than they built the highway.

Only an idiot will be concerned with PNM/UNC arsetalk when we now have both sides demonstrating that the development that they tout for elections is done without the necessary analysis.
They worrying about HYDROLOGICAL REPORTS now.
That's the same hydrological reports the UNC ignored for the highway.

We pay for that...and the recovery resources.

What about the hectares of forest/ habitat list when the dams is built? Do some research on the land loss due to dam construction. Also, what happens if the dam fails leading to loss of life etc. But I agree a solution is needed.

It's just the UNC did it blatantly in the population's faces, whereas the PNM does try to hide, not very successfully though, their corruption.

most of that land north east central already dodgy to begin with wrt to habitation

there are lots of areas with rolling hills eg las lomas, san rafael just before the land flattens outs and sinks into the caroni flood plains
those hilly areas could be possible dam locations

just pie in the sky .02

Exactly, all that land aforementioned is basically a wasteland. It was quarried d fak out and was not rehabilitated. In the cec granted for a quarry the holder is required to rehabilitate the land, but is sweet tnt so....

Mc Bean, Couva has been having intermittent showers and is generally overcast.
The general outlook remains wet.

+1. No easy fix.

New Orleans and other coastal areas of the US stopped permitting the construction of new structures in flood prone areas.

But the fact that Trinidad is a relatively small island with modest average elevation, pumping and elevated structures and roads may be the only real solution.

Marginal La Horquetta/Talparo seat. PNM know that if greenvale go yellow they lose the seat.

All other areas that were flodded are unc safe seats.
