Soldier Fined $20,000 for Breach of Curfew

ARTE KNUTT, a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, was convicted and fined $20,000, or in default two months’ with hard labour on Monday 19th July, 2021. KNUTT, a soldier, pleaded guilty to the charge of breach of the curfew when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Margaret Alert at the Princes Town Second Magistrates’ Court. The soldier, of Indian Walk, Moruga, was given until 30th November 2021, to pay the fine.

Around 9:50 pm Friday 16 July, 2021 Sgt Toussaint, Ag Cpl Teeluck, WPC Bobcombe and PC Ward, were on mobile patrol duty along Rock River, Moruga, when they stopped a white Nissan Almera. The vehicle was being driven by ARTE KNUTT. The soldier was questioned about his reason for being outside during the curfew hours and he replied that he was going to pick up his cousin by the hairdresser. The officers then instructed the soldier to return home.

The soldier was stopped again around 10.30 pm. He was warned about being outside during the curfew hours and instructed to return to his dwelling house. However, around 11.23 pm the officers observed the said Nissan Almera proceeding north along the Moruga Road. The vehicle then suddenly pulled into a yard and stopped. The officers observed ARTE KNUTT in a yard along with a 17-year-old girl, who was seated in the front passenger side of the vehicle. The soldier and the girl were both arrested and subsequently charged for the offence of breach of curfew.

The girl appeared before the Juvenile Court on Monday 19th July, where she pleaded guilty to the charge. The Court Social Services section was then ordered to provide a pre-sentencing psycho-social report on her behalf on Wednesday 25th August, 2021.

Following a tip off on the online sale of protected animals, Game Wardens of the Forestry Division and officers of the Praedial Larceny Squad of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries (MALF), executed a search warrant at a residence at Bovell trace, Charlieville, on Saturday.

There they found and seized: forty bullfiches; five ultramarine grosbeaks; two protected species robin; an adult blue and gold macaw; two baby blue and gold macaws; three capuchin monkeys and one orange-winged parrot.

Accompanying MALF’s staff were officers of the Central Division Task Force as well as the K9 Unit.

MEDIA RELEASE

Police Inspector charged with Transferring his Weapon

A Police Inspector and a female doubles vendor will appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate today charged with offences arising out of a Facebook video in which a woman was seen firing shots in the air from a firearm.

Inspector Russel Maharaj, who was last attached to the Port-of-Spain Division, was charged with transferring a firearm and ammunition. Dena Colan Rambarath was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition.

During the period 11 am and 6 pm on Sunday April 11th, 2021, Maharaj, Rambarath, and other persons were assembled at Upper Seventh Avenue, Malick, Barataria.

It is alleged that Rambarath took hold of a firearm, belonging to Maharaj, and began brandishing it following which loud explosions were heard. The incident was recorded via a cell phone and subsequently, a clip of it was uploaded to Facebook.
On Wednesday 22nd July 2021, the video clip was seen on social media. The Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) was assigned to investigate.

The investigations were spearheaded by Senior Supt Ramnarine Samaroo, Supt Martin and ASP Montrichard.
Enquiries were conducted and on Thursday 22nd July 2021, Insp Maharaj and Rambarath were arrested by Constable Moore and Sgt Valentine respectively.

Further enquiries were conducted and on Monday 26th July 2021, Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Roger Gaspard SC was approached and he gave advice. Maharaj was charged at the Four Roads Police Station, while Rambarath was charged at the Carenage Police Station.

It won’t be that amount. The police use the street or retail value which is a lot more than the wholesale or cost. One kg of cocaine is $3000 usd and a kg of weed is $400usd if your link is good.

40 kg of cocaine is $120000usd and the weed is $40-50g usd . Total just over $1m ttd.
