Legality of obtaining/depositing $US

Anyone could tell me if I could legally purchase $US from a person who just came back from US and deposit it in a bank? What would I need to tell the bank (would they ask my source)? Would I have to provide evidence of what I am saying? How much could I do this with?

just tell them you bought it from a family member depending on the amount

but depositing US into a bank is the same as losing it eh

i went several banks today and they said if i want my USD/Euros/GBP, i have to prove i travelling and give them two weeks to give me up to a certain amount

other than that they can only give a bank draft

Don't they still charge you the commission for the transaction even though it's your own $$? Plus I think they 'buy' it from you and then 'sell' it to you at their rates when processing the transaction. That was what they tried with me when I wanted to load USD on a card for my nephew to use in university.
