According to digicel lte-a is available by me. But both mu huawei p30 pro and Samsung note 10+ (us version) does not show lte-a only normal band 2 and 4.

Has any1 experienced their Lte advanced network yet?

well my old ass oneplus 3 says '4G' but i noticed a drastic increase in speed since yesterday. normally i get 5 - 10Mbps download but now im getting 30 - 40Mbps.

did this test a few mins ago:

Check out Lte discovery app to see the band you connected to.

There has been a boost in HSDPA speeds for some towers that I have seen. IIRC, the OnePlus 3 didn't support band 2 LTE.

TATT gave additional spectrum to both Digi and Bmobile for a short period to improve service as usage increases during this limited lock-down.

It's been ah while... Months since the introduction of band 4.. I getting between 40 to 80 sometimes close to 95 via Lte.

Also on flagship phones p30 pro both China and international models ... Note 10 Plus us version

So I was getting some trouble with my data... I chatted with digi agent and they said to change my apn to web alone and not Web.digicel.com as well as some other stf.

It solved my issue but what apn do u all have?

LTE Advanced doesnt necessarily mean Carrier Aggregation. 3 major features introduced in LTE Advanced are:
  • Carrier Aggregation
  • 256 QAM
  • 4x4 MIMO

Reading through the TATT spectrum licensing conditions on pages 35 to 37 found here:
I can assume that Digicel and bMobile both have 15MHz spectrum on AWS-1 from the following:
4.4.3.v - The spectrum cap for the 1.7/ 2.1 GHz Band will be 30 MHz (i.e. 2 x 15 MHz) per cellular mobile operator, which allows for up to three cellular mobile operators.

From death365’s earlier post, I see that Digicel’s DL Frequency is 2147.5 MHz, which means their license is for TATT AWS Block G/H/I (Table 11). I will also assume carriers are using at minimum 2x2 MIMO in rural/suburban areas. With these assumptions, the max theoretical download user speed would be around:
  • 110 Mbps @ 64 QAM (Regular LTE supports max 64QAM)
  • 150 Mbps @ 256 QAM (LTE Advanced)
38 Mbps/36% increase from Regular to Advanced

In high density areas like Chaguanas, Arima, POS, Sando etc, I would assume they are using 4x4 MIMO, which would double the theoretical max to:
  • 220 Mbps @ 64 QAM (LTE Advanced if 256 QAM is disabled. Regular LTE doesnt support 4x4 MIMO)
  • 300 Mbps @ 256 QAM (LTE Advanced)

And these are speeds they can achieve without Carrier Aggregation. So its quite possible that Digicel/TSTT can have LTE Advanced (because 256 QAM is an LTE advanced feature) without having Carrier Aggregation.

OK thanks I kinda understand what you mean, it's so confusing cause my phone only states and displays Lte never lte+.

And carrier aggregation aka BW never shows up via any Lte info app. So I'm guessing it's the 2x2 thing.

Digicel currently has 2x2 mimo on both band 2 and band 4 for its lte network.
Carrier aggregation and 256qam is also a feature on the network.

it's the PLMN code for a Test network. Don't concern yourself with it.
Select Automatic and let your phone and sim card deal with that setting. It's not like it can choose any other network not programmed onto the sim card.

Actually for those wondering Digicel only uses Carrier Aggregation on their LTE-A network. 4x4 MIMO and 256 QAM isn't utilised as of now. Digicel's CTO said that the max speed is about ~190 mbps without the extra spectrum they were given for the lockdown. i.e. 10 MHz of band 2 and 15 MHz of band 4.

Factoring the extra spectrum given to Digicel for the lockdown they temporarily have a total of 20 MHz of band 2 and 20 MHz of band 4 which should give them a max speed of 300 mbps. Again Digicel doesn't use 4x4 MIMO or 256 QAM on it's network. I'm not too sure if they have Carrier Aggregation on the Uplink but I would assume so since they got over 50 mbps in some of the screenshots posted above.

As for bmobile they only have PCS (Band 2) deployed for LTE. They didn't purchase AWS-1 (band 4) to deploy LTE-A like Digicel. So bmobile's max speed is about 75 mbps without the extra spectrum they were given for the lockdown. i.e. 10 MHz of band 2. For the lockdown they were given an extra 10 MHz so they now have 20 MHz of band 2 deployed which should have a max speed of 150 mbps. bmobile may finally deploy LTE-A when TATT finally decides to give both operators access to band 28 (700 MHz).

For those who are curious you can use this LTE Speed Calculator: https://www.cellmapper.net/4G-speed to calculate the max speed that both networks can achieve given their spectrum allocation.

Assuming 2x2 MIMO, 256QAM and (temporary) 20MHz, you should get 200Mbps per band....so Carrier Aggregated you should get 400Mbps max.

As far as UL speeds concerned, majority of phones can only do 64QAM and SISO on uplink, no UL Carrier Agg. The general user will therefore only get a max UL of 75Mbps.

The newer iPhones can do UL 256QAM and UL CA , meaning 100Mbps per 20MHz carrier, and for 2 bands, 200Mbps. Of course...the network must have these features enabled as well.

You ain't doing 256QAM unless you next to the cell tower anyway.

the real gains come from small cells...when you standing right next to the antenna and you dont even know it

joshuashah17 wrote:bmobile may finally deploy LTE-A when TATT finally decides to give both operators access to band 28 (700 MHz).

bmobile could deploy a half-assed LTE-A Carrier Aggregation without B28... they have B5 (850MHz) spectrum which im sure they're using for GSM and UMTS...they could re-farm 5MHz of B5 for LTE (easiest thing is to get rid of UMTS) and do B2+B5 CA, and leave B5 GSM on the '(prime) part of the B5 spectrum block. The reverse combo (B5+B2) isnt in 3gpp spec though.

There are NO phones out there that support more than 2 MIMO layers on low bands like 600MHz, 700MHz, 850MHz and 900MHz though, so bmobile wouldnt be able to match Digicel max theoretical speeds doing B2+B28//B28/B2 CA. They would provide better coverage though.
