Appointment of CEO to the Tobago Tourism Agency..

Postby Monk BANzai » November 1st, 2017, 3:45 pm

"Good Luck is best words I can muster. But Tobago Tourism is going nowhere unless the Political will is there. So far there is NO strategic tourism development plan for Tobago." - prolly the best sentiment of late that i've heard about Tobago's Tourism Sector...

And no! Sandal's alone, for Tobago is not the strategic plan needed to build Tourism in Tobago.

Anyhow.... Mr. Louis. Lewis.

SCARBOROUGH Tobago, 1 November 2017: The Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation, and the board of the Tobago Tourism Agency, are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Louis Lewis as the organisation’s first Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Lewis most recently served on the Saint Lucia Tourist Board from February 2008 to January 2017, in the capacity of Director of Tourism, as well as Chief Executive Officer.

From 2003 to 2006 Mr. Lewis served as Saint Lucia’s Director of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, where he was responsible for the implementation of the budget policy program. Following this post, he was appointed as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Investment and Consumer Affairs, before being appointed as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.

In the 1990’s Mr. Lewis held prominent positions in several key Saint Lucia government agencies, including serving as the Head of the Research Department at the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, as an Economist with the Ministry of Finance, as well as an Economic Statistician with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank at its headquarters in Saint Kitts.

Mr. Lewis’ diverse background spans the fields of Tourism Research and Marketing, Economics, Statistics, Consumer Research, Marketing, and Project Management. His experience has equipped him with unparalleled insights in strategic development planning, and places him in a unique professional position.

His contributions to the tourism field are extensive and include:

· Revamping the image of Saint Lucia in the marketplace through two successful branding exercises in 2009 and 2013 respectively, as well as commencing another in 2016.

· Leading the successful negotiations for increased airlift to Saint Lucia, specifically increased frequency with American Airlines, Delta and Virgin Atlantic; and new and expanded services with British Airways, JetBlue, Continental, Thomas Cook and Condor.

· Incorporating new research techniques into the planning process to ensure a strategic approach to Product Development and significantly enhance the effectiveness of marketing.

· Spearheading the development of a five-year strategic plan for the Saint Lucia Tourist Board for 2012 to 2016.

· Leading the staff restructuring of the Saint Lucia Tourist Board in 2015.

· Leading the development of a crisis management plan for the tourism industry in Saint Lucia.

· Maintaining the financial operations of the Saint Lucia Tourist Board within the budget allocations in each successive year, delivering good value for money, and ensuring that all audits were up to date by the end of tenure.

A graduate of the University of the West Indies – Cave Hill, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Mr. Lewis also holds a Masters of Business Administration from the same institution, and is a Certified Bank Examiner, and a Project Management Professional.

The Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation, and Tobago Tourism Agency Board, are confident that Mr. Lewis possesses the skills, knowledge and expertise to move Destination Tobago forward. Both organisations wish him the very best in this new role and look forward to his contributions to developing the island’s tourism sector.

Don't get your hopes up. Nothing is going to change. They will most likely prevent him from doing any good.

Mr Lewis sounds like the man for the job, and he may mean well all he wants but...

- Tobago is still a ward of Trinidad. They are not allocated enough and THA politicians squander or take the money.
- The seabridge has collapsed.
- The airbridge is lacking.
- Out budget allocation for tourism is lacking.
- Tobago does try but our allocation and attention to our local and cultural heritage to market to foreigners is abysmal.
- THA is afraid of foreign investment and foreigners buying their lands.
- Countries such as the US and the UK issued warnings about our crime rate and links to ISIS and unfortunately Tobago wrap up in that.
- Rowley is a mouthpiece for Sandals which by itself is a turnoff and not suppose to be done in the first place. Sandals is not the problem but the process. Any competitive bidding by any other local or international hoteliers for the lands resulting in Tobago benefiting from the deal?

Better you go Miami and chill.

Also, instead of simply restructuring the TDC with a fresh mandate, you shut it down, send home workers and then create three new entities where one of them is the Tobago Tourism Agency?

Same thing that happened to Andrew Jupiter, is going to happen to this guy.
He may be qualified and have good intentions, but that doesn't mean the politicians they have to answer to have the same qualities.

Exactly!!! As much as we love to appoint the "technocrats" they don't get very far, their long term vision clashes with the politicians and contractors short term ambition.

It really simple inno.

Airlist. Get more international flights to Tobago directly.

Infrastructure. It's not there financially. They need to compete internationally. In yet to see Tobago properly advertised internationally on all levels, especially digital. Not guest houses that advertise. I'm taking Country Brand advertising. Tobago Jazz? No one cares about trini's coming to Tobago to spend TTD.. Markert internationally and get that USD in.

The African American tourist spending dollar is actually trending UP.. That's a market to tap into.

Real simple basics to flesh out.

You would think so, but once the GORTT puts their hand in it, its all downhill from there.

That guys credentials seem pretty sound. Lets hope he can do to Tobago what he did to St Lucia.
Trinis can't really vex with a foreigner here nah cuz we have Trinis either working or looking for work up the islands as well. Currently a Trini heads the Cayman Islands Investment promotion agency.

But on a next note Louis Lewis?? Really parents!!!
