Trini fakes kidnapping in Guyana

Postby agent007 » October 30th, 2017, 5:36 am

A Trinidadian national was held in Guyana for allegedly faking his own kidnapping.

According to a report yesterday on kaieteurnewsonline, Sawak Maraj, a mechanical engineer, claimed to have been abducted from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, early on Friday.

He reportedly left the airport in a taxi and was heading to a hotel on the East Bank Demerara when he disappeared. At the time, he was coming to Guyana to attend a job interview with Exxon Mobil.

A reservation was made for Maraj at the hotel on Thursday, the day that he was scheduled to check in, but Maraj only arrived in Guyana on a Caribbean Airlines flight at around 7 am on Friday.

Shortly after the engineer left the airport, a photograph of him with someone holding a cutlass to his neck, was sent to his parents and other relatives in TT.

It is alleged the “kidnappers” threatened to kill their victim if a ransom was not paid. The engineer’s family immediately made contact with the Guyana Police Force and forwarded the photograph. Kaieteur News said it was told that local police were able to track the phone number the “kidnappers” used to make contact with Maraj’s relatives and trace the location where the call was made.

Police were immediately mobilised from around Georgetown and sent to the location in a bid to rescue the “victim.” On arrival at the hotel, they took up strategic positions.

They were then puzzled when they entered the room where the “victim” was being held and found him relaxing on a sofa, drinking a can of fruit juice. He was not bound or gagged.

Maraj was escorted to the Criminal Investigation Unit where he was interrogated. Two other persons who allegedly assisted in making the reservation are also in police custody, the report said.

Sawak is just a scumbag who wants to take large amounts of cash from his parents.

Probably fed up of getting little or nothing from them.....maybe they give him nothing because he doesnt deserve it....no allowance since primary school....

he is the type that will steal from family if he gets a chance and more than likely the one to fight down and kill for inheritance.

Beat he mc to a pulp

Giving an update:

COME February 19, 33-year-old Trinidadian, Sawak Maraj will go on trial before City Magistrate, Fabayo Azore, for faking his own kidnapping in Guyana last year.
Last October, Maraj was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for giving the police wrong information and for conspiracy to commit a felony.

Particulars of the case allege that on October 27, 2017 in Georgetown, Maraj knowingly gave false information to the police, stating that he was kidnapped, and that his abductors had demanded US$700,000 for his release.

It is further alleged that on the same day while at the Madewini Resort on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, Maraj conspired with two other persons to obtain the ransom money.
He is currently out on the streets on $1M bail, and the matter has been transferred to Magistrate Azore, despite every effort by his attorney, Bernard De Santos, SC, to have the matter dismissed.

According to the police, Maraj arrived in Guyana on October 27, 2017, claiming that he came for a job interview. He was picked up at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport by two other Trinidadians, who had arrived in the country earlier in the week.
Later that same day, Maraj’s relatives in Trinidad reportedly received a call from an unknown person who claimed to have kidnapped Maraj shortly after his arrival here, and demanding that a ransom be paid for his release.

The man’s family was also sent a photograph showing him clad only in his underwear and socks, and one of his alleged abductors holding a cutlass to his neck.
After being contacted by the man’s family in Trinidad, local police and agents from the Force’s Major Crimes Unit immediately sprang into action.

The first thing they did was to review footage from the surveillance camera at the airport, which showed Maraj warmly embracing his two so-called abductors, who were his fellow ‘Trinis’, on arrival. They then boarded a taxi without incident.

Aided by the surveillance tapes, the investigators were able to track down the taxi driver who transported the men from the airport, and trace the call that was made to demand the ransom. It was that call that gave them the location from where the call was made.

Armed with such vital information, the agents then hurried to the location. There they found Maraj, the supposedly kidnapped victim, in an apartment; relaxing and sipping on beverages.
