Fire triggers evacuation at Atlantic LNG
Atlantic's gas process facility in Point Fortin was evacuated on Tuesday, following a fire at one of its power generation units.
The situation was brought under control and employees have returned to work, the Express was told.
A release from Atlantic stated that the incident occurred at around 2.15pm.
“At around 2:15 pm today (September 12) there was a fire at one of the power generation units on Atlantic's Point Fortin plant. The company's response and safety systems immediately activated as per design,” it stated.
Atlantic stated that the fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries. Technical teams conducted checks of the facility and the company was in the process of advising relevant stakeholders.
Point Fortin Mayor Abdon Mason stated that he was pleased with the company's response.
He said, “According to information coming to me from Atlantic there was a fire at turbine generator one and two at Atlantic. Persons were evacuated and mustered, all persons were accounted for. The fire was extinguished and they have all returned to work.”
Last month, there was an evacuation at the facility following a leak at one of its liquefaction units (trains).
Atlantic stated that there was a hydrocarbon release at Atlantic's Point Fortin facility. It stated that the company's response and safety systems immediately activated as per their design and all staff at the facility were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Within 20 minutes the incident was brought under control, it stated.

Depends, if its one of the older trains, it may be aging equipment not being properly maintained or replaced.

Actually since shell has basically taken over there has been a lot of cuts, not just in manpower that we heard of in the news, but they cut most overtime and the maintenance work that would go along with it, so I'm not surprised this stuff is happening, this is what happens when ya wanna watch de money while ya plant on fire.
And now all de money they saved by cutting staff and other things will now have to be spent to repair the plant, but they won't beat up having to pay that money though. It's only a beat up to pay people a living wage...
