CLOSE to 70 staff members including full-time lecturers have been retrenched from The UWI-Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business (Lok Jack GSB) under a new strategic plan and structure which was implemented by the board as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and financial challenges.

Sources told the Express that the downturn in the economy, the removal of the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses Programme (GATE) and the impact of the pandemic, placed a further strain on the institution.

Could it be that women were more represented in the fields that were adversely affected by COVID-19, like retail.

not really
As Number34 mentioned, more women work in retail & service jobs, & those sectors feeling a squeeze for quite some time now. But that's not all.
Plenty businesses actually gravitate to dismissing female workers over their male counterparts for a variety of reasons. One reason being that males are generally willing to do more & don't make additional duties a problem. For example.
If there's a water cooler that needs the bottle replaced and you have a male & female worker both approximately the same size and in the same position and making the same salary, you go see hell trying to get that female worker to replace that water bottle. "I can't do that" "It too heavy" "Dat is for a man to do" will be some of the excuses you would get.
Yet that same female for December will tote a 50 pounds of shopping bags up & down the length & breadth of Frederick street

males are a bit more versatile, they can do the same small detail work the female can do as well as the heavy lifting

Or is it that there are alot of white knights, Simps, or pantie siffers .

Years ago a female in the office told me that the water cooler bottle is empty, I said to her how nice and walked off.

F/X problems. They are a major importer of fruits (apples & grapes) which are now luxury items and so more expensive.

But they were open up to last month.
