Bandits shot, burn to death in getaway car

Trinidad Express - TWO BANDITS were shot and then burnt to death in their getaway car last night in Paramin, while a third accomplice was later arrested.

The three men, all armed with guns, stormed a bar in Paramin, Maraval, only to be confronted by the owner, who fired at them using his licensed pistol.

The Express contacted Maraval Police Station by telephone in an attempt to confirm the incident, but was told by a female officer that she would lose her job if she spoke to the media.

However, members of the public called the Express and confirmed the incident.

One man said that around 6.15 p.m., three armed bandits entered Cool Breeze Bar, located off Fatima Trace, Paramin, and announced a hold-up.

They began robbing patrons and were about to beat some of them when the proprietor intervened and fired shots at the trio.
All three were hit but managed to run out of the establishment.

A customer sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and it is believed that he was shot by one of the bandits.
Two of them got into a car, leaving the third cohort behind.

The duo attempted to flee the scene while firing shots at the proprietor, who was outside the bar and returning fire at the thieves.
During the exchange of gunfire, it appeared the car’s gas tank was struck by a bullet, resulting in the vehicle exploding.

A caller to the Express said the already injured bandits burnt to death in the getaway vehicle.

Maraval police eventually turned up and arrested the third bandit, who at the time was being given “a harsh talking to” by some of the villagers, according to the person who contacted the Express.

people want vengeance on criminals, understandably. but then there are limits to self-defence. this is an issue here, and should be, like it or not, since it's on the statute books.

but i take it back, it's good the man did fight back.
