I've never used Uber, but I have used the local versions "Wi Ride" and "Drop" and they had provided great service, especially "Drop". Drivers reached on time, friendly and polite and the cars were in good condition.

Plus it is good to support local.

Used them several times, very efficient, drivers are pleasant and cars extremely clean. Cars also have wi-fi and the prices aren't bad either. Especially like that I don't need to walk with cash.

Only problem is vehicles are only available from POS. Although once I was able to get one from home (Cunupia). The driver was on the way back from a pick-up.

Is it along wait sometimes or is it usually brisk pick ups?

Varies, but usually less than ten minutes

thanks for the feedback guys :)

seems like it's more for POS and environs. was looking at using them for the Chronixx concert in south this month end, but I guess the pick up after maybe an issue...

my cousin actually tried Uber and her driver was a female in a new AD wagon. her experience was ok and 'quick' - the driver, however, was having issues with her maps. overall ok rating from her

another guy told me his mum usually uses it to get around POS - good price and no headache finding a park in POS #winning

I'll appreciate any more stories

Any of you guys looked at using it as an additional source of income?

Schoolboy, 13, held for Uber robberies

Image

A 13-year-old boy was pointed out in an identification parade as one of the alleged assailants who were robbing UBER drivers in Belmont.

The teenager, who is said to be a form-one student, was arrested on Friday at his home along Harpe Place, East Dry Driver.

He was one of several people – including a 22-year-old man – who were held over the weekend by officers of the Port of Spain CID following reports of robberies.

It was said that persons would make requests with the transport app for a pick-up in Belmont.

However, when drivers arrived, they were robbed of their cellular phones and valuables.

The incident, police said, was allegedly conducted by a group of teenagers, and the 22-year-old, from initial information, is believed to be the ring-leader of the group.

The investigation was spearheaded by Snr Sup Ajith Persad, with assistance from Inspector Maraj, Sgt Williams and Cpl Julien, among several others.

Question: How can Uber robberies be so prevalent when customers need a credit card to pay for a trip. Wouldn't tracking a suspect be extremely easy due to use of credit cards which has their name or a close friend or relative on it. :?:

Because in Trinidad there is the option to pay via cash.

I think this Christopher Mohammed guy they killed was from up by me.

Anyways I plan on doing this same type of work as dangerous as it may be nothing beats working for yourself and transport always have money. Life is all about risks vs rewards, everything is a gamble.

Best bet might be to put in a GPS in your car and give it up without a struggle as you will get it back. Not sure how this guy was killed if he tried to fight off the bandits etc but I can only assume they will spare your life if you give up without a struggle.

a couple weekends ago 4 of us took and Uber from the Avenue to Maraval (deep Maraval) at 2AM and it was only $30- the driver was really good (no bad driving, smelly etc) told stories of a Cuban prostitution ring (not sure how true that was) and other funny encounters he had while driving people about- gave the fella an extra tip as it a completely painless experience- would recommend.

Just got this email from Uber:

Pause of operations in Trinidad and Tobago

Hello,

After operating for more than a year in Trinidad and Tobago, and having made multiple efforts to create a significant change in the country in regards to mobility and opportunities for entrepreneurship, Uber has unfortunately decided to pause its operation in the country.
This decision was not made lightly, but at this time, we believe that there is a lack of a proper environment for innovation and technology to thrive in Trinidad and Tobago. The app will close its services on Wednesday May 30th at 11:59 AM.
We want to thank you for placing your trust in Uber to move safely and reliably around Trinidad and Tobago. If you have any doubts, please contact our support channels through the Uber Rider app. We will gladly address any concerns you may have.

Sincerely,
Uber Team Trinidad and Tobago

Lol
It's because most of the drivers do a lot of private call jobs
I know a couple drivers and they eventually work more like 1/3 uber and 2/3 direct phone pickup

"Strictly related to economic and business reasons" ...

http://www.looptt.com/content/uber-paus ... and-tobago

Ride-sharing service Uber has announced that it will be pausing operations in Trinidad and Tobago.
In correspondence to its user, Uber says it has made “multiple efforts to create a significant change in the country in regards to mobility and opportunities for entrepreneurship”. It goes on to say that it believes that “at this time…there is a lack of a proper environment for innovation and technology to thrive in Trinidad and Tobago”.
Julie Robinson, Uber’s spokesperson, said in response to Loop TT, “As a last resource, we have decided to pause our services in Trinidad and Tobago strictly related to economic and business reasons. We already notified this decision to drivers and users, as we let them know what will be our next step. Despite the circumstances, we are very grateful for the support we have received since the day we launched the platform in Trinidad and Tobago.” Uber launched in Trinidad and Tobago January of 2017. In the country, Uber had over 500 drivers and 7,000 active users in the platform.
According to the correspondence sent, the app will close its services to Trinidad and Tobago at 11:59 am on Wednesday 30 May.
The announcement follows the murder of Uber driver Christopher Mohammed earlier this month and subsequent reports from other drivers who also became victims of crime while on the job.
The company issued a statement that it would be reviewing its security measures following Mohammed's murder.
