The current SUV thread reminded me of a little situation we went through.
Not too long ago during a routine service call, the dealership told my wife that her vehicle needed repairs done to the steering rack or some steering related issue.
The cost was upward of $20,000. We didn't proceed with it because we thought it to be exorbitant and also because weren't getting any problems with the steering or vehicle stability.
However, a few months later the dealership called to inform her that there was a service recall on the vehicle and that the issue was the self same steering problem that they tried to charge us for before! They of course never mentioned that they tried to charge us for it before.
So it appears as though they were making unsuspecting folk pay for work that were supposed to have been done for free!
Or maybe the issue wasn't up for recall at the time they told her about it, but i doubt that.
We were lucky to not fall for it. But I don't doubt that there may have been others who were made to pay for the service recall and maybe others that was supposed to be free.
Anyways folks, keep checking your manufacturer websites for service recalls and don't fall for repairs that should be done freely!
THere should be some kinda car owners association in TT to inform folks about these kinda issues though...
