Toyota issues recall over airbag defects

Toyota Trinidad and Tobago Ltd has recalled four of its models—Corolla, Yaris, Rav4 and Avensis—over possible airbag defects.
“Toyota wishes to advise that there have been various manufacturer issues with the dual-stage, front passenger-side airbags, affecting various Toyota brands,” the company said via a newspaper advertisement last week.

Toyota has urged customers to immediately contact its Barataria and San Fernando branches to arrange for repairs to be done to the airbags for their safety and for the safety of others.
Toyota Trinidad’s latest action comes three days after Toyota Motor Corp recalled 3.37 million cars worldwide over possible defects involving the airbags and emission control units.

“We at Toyota care greatly about you, your passengers and the safety of your vehicle. While we prepare the remedy parts for this condition, we advise that you please take action to the following immediately,” the company added.
It advised customers that the repairs, which will be done for free, will take approximately one to two and a half hours, but depending on the model of the vehicles and work schedule, it may take a longer period.

Please act on the notification provided by local dealer.
This latest development suggest that they have rec'd stock to handle this outstanding recall issue.
I have had 2 Toyota Corollas NZE121 (local) addressed over the last three weeks.
The cost of addressing airbag issues outside the recall facility is absolutely prohibitive.
Unfortunately, the recertification paper work after the job is done seems non-existent.

Recall is fairly recent due to the fairly recent discovery of issues with airbags not deploying properly and potentially causing injuries/death. It's not only Toyota. Honda has issued recalls for vehicles going back to that time period as well. Other manufacturers may also start doing the same.

Well....anyone wanna bet this gonna cause some upset owners. All those crash dealers who remove busted airbags and place back plastic covers. Resold cars to unsuspecting customers. And dont talk bout mileage. Apparantly Nze dont ever cross 100,000kms

Now called Toyota to make an appointment to get the airbag service done. The girl asked for the registration and when I told her she said the vehicle not in the system. She then asked me where I bought the vehicle and I said foreign used. She said well you have to go by whoever does fix your vehicle and let them double check it for you.Aren't they suppose to check ALL Toyota vehicles with the problem regardless of where you bought it?

She is a pleb. Talk to someone with knowledge @ Toyota. She doesn't understand how recalls work. Foreign used dealers have no access to VINs.
