Brexit....

Postby desifemlove » June 21st, 2016, 2:55 pm

I had a postal vote, but i don't think it registered in time.

that said, i hope it's remain:

- globalisation is a fact of life, in or out, we still have to get trade deals.

- sovereignty? again, any treaty undermines sovereignty.

- immigration. I get the concerns, but then where do people think the labour for the lowly jobs does come from? Poland, Czech Republic, Latvia, ent? It not so simple as to leave then expect people will fill these jobs jus so.

Remain has the odds. Tho if I were a Briton I'd vote 2 leave.

How Britns welfare state funds the influx of new immigrants is yet 2b seen.

They should vote to stay.

Makes absolutely no sense to leave, UK benefits significantly from this. Only the older right wing generation want to leave.

Those on the right getting caught up in the wave of Nationalist fervor sweeping the world. More beneficial to stay.

These trade associations, benefit the poorer countries, by sharing the wealth of the more well off countries.

With UK, they have a more equitable arrangement, where they more or less spend the same amount in staying or leaving. It just makes it harder for immigrant labor. But the small business will benefit from the lower cost immigrant labor.

The good thing, is that in a global financial crisis, they may be able to spread the risk or losses amongst all the member states. And also insulate their economies by intra trading.

Trinidad have nothing to gain by staying in caricom, except 'fadda of the Caribbean' status. In hard times, the other islands don't present a good enough market for anything we can trade with, to say that it would be a shelter in a storm. When u scruntin u can't help nobody, no time.

The only real benefit we can hope to get is to impose a lot of income tax on non nationals working in tnt.

If Venezuela and Guyana decide they want to smarten up and have stable capitalist economies, those are the countries we should be aligning with. We have more relatable resources and expertise.

CARICOM was a bad idea...good thing Jca had sense 2 pull out...

The EU iz also a bad idea. It is anti-democratic superstate. Britons would do well 2 run like hell.

Leave iza good move. The specter of 75 million Turks joining the EU had something 2 do with it methinks. But it's not legally binding. UK MPs will have 2 ratify the vote.

But if they don't the conservative Gubbament will fall.

Next up Italy France and the Netherlands.

The referendum is just an indication of the voting publics POV.

So this is like a sample ...which can be returned for a full refund.
Now we will see more sober analysis and discussion ...keep in mind there is a precedent in the EU of repeating referendums until you get the right answer.

There is something called Article 50 which is the irrevocable mechanism that must end in an Exit from the EU.

Up to and until an application is made under that Article ...at this point nothing is mandatory or legally binding

Listen. Now is the time for Caricom to be SMART about this. We now have a chance to Renegotiate terms with the UK with everything from sugar to bananas to cocoa. We can use the leverage angle of the fact that we are in the commonwealth and have a shared interest in the flourishing of the Caribbean region.
No longer do we have to tango with Brussels, we can get preferential deals straight from London!

Up next are Irish and Scottish Independence referendums.....then we end up with England and Wales a country almost 1/3rd smaller than Guyana whose nuclear arsenal and security council seat would be their strongest trump cards.
