Shell oil shortage?

Went to buy a gallon of Shell Helix this morning, the neighbourhood auto shop didn't have any. The guy said that nobody has any Shell in stock right now because the Pt. Lisas plant has been closed down?

I didn't know we had a Shell plant locally, can anybody corroborate this shortage?

And yes we have a shell plant locally since 1995...blending mostly non synthetic motor oils locally and importing fully synthetics

The cheaper budget oils seem easy to find. Looks like shops stocking what the masses buying for higher rate of turnover.
You'd be shocked at what people putting in their vehicles. People does hustle a coworker of mine for his used engine oil because it not black and it has not made 10,000km (seems in their minds it have some mileage left on it still).

I think the brz manual recommends 0W something and last I asked at motorist the gallon of 0W synthetic was on the shelf for awhile.

The plant is closing down in June , suppliers will have some difficulty with stocks

Correct last day of local production will be May 31st...but orders will be filled by Shell Houston to the local distributor here in Trinidad being FT Farfan...

That means cost of Shell oil will escalate --- by a whole lot.
