Arrive Alive: Get 'souped-up' cars off the road

Postby Allergic2BunnyEars » February 24th, 2016, 9:24 am

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/20160223 ... f-the-road

THOUSANDS of illegally modified vehicles, which are capable of race track speeds, are on the nation's roadways this very moment, according to a road safety activist.
These “souped-up” vehicles are being outfitted with engines and drive trains taken from “super” cars and the vehicles are being inspected and certified as road worthy, against the regulations in the Motor Vehicles Act.
On Sunday, Barrackpore resident Wayne Brown, 24, died when his “souped-up” car, a Nissan Cifero, crashed into several concrete posts and utility poles.
The Nissan Cifero, a family sedan, is popular with street racers since the vehicle can be equipped with the high performance Rb20 or Rb25 six-cylinder engines for less than $20,000.
The engines are originally installed in the Nissan Skyline, considered a sports car.
President of Arrive Alive Sharon Inglefield believes there is a lack of enforcement of the laws concerning modified vehicles and is questioning why such vehicles are not being removed from the roadways and why the laws from the Motor Vehicles Act are not being upheld.
“I want to make an appeal to the licensing officers to get these vehicles off the road and we do not understand why we have not enforced the law. We don't know how they are being allowed on our nation's roads and therefore we appeal to the TTPS (Trinidad and Tobago Police Service) to get these off the roads,” said Inglefield.
“These types of vehicles are not allowed on the roads and they have to be passed by the authorities to be allowed on our nation's roads and we therefore need to get them off. Please remove them if they are breaking the laws,” she added.
Inglefield also said that driving these modified vehicles is a “ticketable” offence.
She made an appeal to the public to be cautious when driving.
“Once again we appeal to (drivers) to obey the speed limit. Our vehicles and our roads were designed at a certain speed limit, and when we push the boundaries, we suffer the consequences of our action and thereby serious collisions occur as injury and deaths in our nation's roads.
“The laws are there to protect us and the laws have been implemented for this reason and therefore we make an appeal to please obey the traffic laws,” said Inglefield.

AA on sheit. Cefiro done coming with the engine. Most of the accidents is not even modified cars. Modern entry level euros faster than many so called sports cars of old. AA has no point.

They can't enforce rules for visible offenses like them HID's idiots blinding people with, but they want to enforce a ban on RaceWars engines? Good luck with that.

And I'll say it again as a Y12 Wingroad driver: the Tiida shares the same platform so it hadda be plain stupidity for them men to put that much faith in a vehicle that has significant body roll, bad brakes and still rides higher than a Y12. It's a mode of transport; not a sport car.

Actually its a lady  And its Rb20e as a single cam engine

Firstly that engine is a dinasour and their are many new vehicles on the roads making plenty more power than that.I say raise the age limit for drivers to 25yrs.

I thought the Tiida is what made the Wetman.

Sharon Inglefield exists in a different reality from the rest of Trinidad

I thought it was a sports car when the right amount of coils from the springs were removed and appropriate 22" chrome rims were affixed to the vehicle wrapped in the cheapest tyres available?

What is race track speed? Honestly hit 160 without even noticing it while driving the CVT HR15 tiida downhill by couva flyover. Just planted my foot on the pedal to overtake some lumbering truck and was waiting for the feeling of the transmission going back to a higher gear when I realized the thing just start to ramp up acceleration. When you accustomed to downhill assist and a noisy engine in a car without AC nuh *Hides face in shame*

Firstly that engine is a dinasour and their are many new vehicles on the roads making plenty more power than that.I say raise the age limit for drivers to 25yrs.
From reading the article, it doesn't seem to be AA/Inglefield who stated "The Nissan Cifero, a family sedan, is popular with street racers since the vehicle can be equipped with the high performance Rb20 or Rb25 six-cylinder engines for less than $20,000. The engines are originally installed in the Nissan Skyline, considered a sports car." Those seem to be details from and the opinion of the reporter.

However, AA/Inglefield did mention "Thousands of illegally modified vehicles, which are capable of race track speeds, are on the nation's roadways", which is true to an extent.

I'm not clear though which of them (the reporter or AA) stated "The 'souped-up' vehicles are being outfitted with engines and drive trains taken from 'super' cars".

To me it seems the reporter have issues with Nissan drivers
