Climate Change Documentary - Bill Nye's Global Meltdown

Postby LeRobot » November 17th, 2015, 2:37 pm

Perhaps something we in Trinidad should be very concerned about in the future, but alas I don't expect much resolution given our ignorance, shortsightedness, greed and lack of fortitude in making hard decisions.

Trinidad is second in the world as the highest emissions per capita which is nothing really... But more than that, the world likes steak, asia needs rice. The other end of the problem is lengthened when vast amounts of land is being cleared each day for cattle production. To sustainably produce cattle for the US' demands for beef alone not to mention dairy products, you'd need the entire north american continent and central america. Don't forget methane's potency is 25 times that of carbon emissions.

Don't disagree, many avenues generate greenhouse gases and we need to look at reducing all.

However, I personally think while our global impact is minuscule (despite our high per-capita ratio), we need to hop on this trend of reducing carbon footprints and create awareness among to populace. We do not want to end up like with a Republican-like demographic who is scientifically illiterate.

The fact is, POS can be underwater (well permanently flooded) in 20-30 years if CO2 production is not substantially reduced. Hardly anyone locally seems genuinely concerned.

True we do need to be more eco-friendly, yet we still litter.....long road ahead.

I guess getting more cars of the road is one option, clean diesel, to be honest just remove the subsidies on the fuel across the board, in one measure.

A new system of metering both power and water.

Stop the rampant consumerism......
