Rare Cyclone Heads for Arabia

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » November 1st, 2015, 12:11 pm

Citizens of the arid Arabian Peninsula were bracing for strong winds, a storm surge, and extreme rainfall as Cyclone Chapala (04A) was forecast to make landfall in early November 2015. Only two tropical cyclones have hit the Peninsula since reliable records started in 1979, and Chapala has the potential to be the strongest of them all. Weather forecasters were calling for several years’s worth of rain to fall on Yemen and Oman over the course of just two or three days.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this natural-color image of Chapala in the Arabian Sea at 1:10 p.m. local time (09:10 Universal Time) on October 30, 2015. At the time, the tropical cyclone had sustained winds between 130 and 135 knots (150-155 miles or 240-250 kilometers per hour) and significant wave heights of 38 feet. The potent storm was moving westward across the Arabian Sea. The image below, acquired by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on Suomi NPP, shows the storm at 12:30 p.m. local time (08:30 UTC) on October 29, 2015.

Cyclone Chapala has tracked west from its position in the Arabian Sea, potentially taking it on a path towards eastern Yemen's war-torn sea port of Mukalla and its population of 300,000 people.

The storm is expected to bring torrential rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and damaging storm surges when it makes landfall on Monday evening.

Mukalla could see up to 500mm of rain from the cyclone - more than seven times its average yearly rainfall of 70mm. Such an amount would cause widespread flooding, and given the rugged terrain, also lead to flash flooding and landslides.

Lightning strikes Kuwait Towers

30-foot waves expected

The November 1 weather update by Oman’s Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre analysis reveals that the Tropical Cyclone Chapala over the south-western Arabian Sea is currently centered about 450km away from the coastal areas of the governate of Dhofar. The centre further states: “The surface wind speed around the centre has decreased to 85-95 knots (153 to 171 km/hour).

Latest weather charts indicate that Chapala is likely to track westwards, with the centre of Chapala expected to cross the coastal areas of Yemen in the next 48 hours.

The centre further warns: “Isolated moderate to heavy rain, occasional thundershowers associated with fresh winds, are expected to affect Dhofar governate on Sunday.

“Torrential rain with fresh to strong winds over the governate and rough to very rough seas condition with wave height reaching five to seven metres are expected on Monday and Tuesday.”

Maximum wave height is expected to reach 30 feet.

that is impressive. So this is the third since 1979, would be the second storm of the season to raise red flags. Hurricane Patricia a couple of weeks ago off Mexico's West Coast went from a tropical storm to a category 5 in 24 hours! unheard of.

I suppose we can expect more extreme weather given rising sea surface temperatures.

At every turn of a natural disaster over the course of time , some religions folk seem to always see end of days and quote the bible , as seen above. California Fires every year = end of days Katrina 2005 = end of days , Large Hurricanes every season = end of days , San Francisco 7.1 1989 = end of days, Earthquakes which occur every 30 mins = end of days , 1827 a Hurricane hit New Hampshire = end of days and I can go on and on with events that are some how correlated to "end of days" .Do you have an actual threshold or measure for when you proclaim end of days? Or is it at any possible event ? Or it is cool or religious to the mention it for any event ?

Shhhhhh! Don't get them started nah. Can't deal with another tread where the religious fools try and prove everyone wrong by quoting this and that from every book and saying stuff like it's true cause it was written and I have faith, blah blah.

Does my head in.

Coming back to OPs post, this season looks like it's the season of extreme weather. Even on a smaller localized scale, I saw some weather offshore with winds that I've never ever seen locally. Was scary as fcuk.

John 15:18-19
18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.[/quote]

"I permit no woman to teach or have authority over men; she is to keep silent." Timothy 2:11

If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, 28 then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. 29 You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters."(Leviticus 26:27-30)

Some choice quotes here.

Such a strange book the Bible.
Deuteronomy 25:11-12New International Version (NIV)

11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.
