Roku 4 media player now in 4K

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » October 27th, 2015, 10:32 pm

after a long wait since the Roku 3 in 2013

Works both at 4k UHD and 1080p HD

Lost remote finder

Voice search for movies or channels

Share the screen of your phone or tablet on your TV or use your phone or tablet as touch screen remote.

Seriously one of the best media players around. WIll make a smart TV even smarter.

What internet speed would you require to stream in 4k?

yup

just search netflix for 4K and you will see the available titles

it's not much but it's growing

Flow has a Netflix cache server that helps with faster netflix streaming if you use a Flow connection, however the cache server doesnt work if you use a US IP / DNS redirect etc

i think at least a 15Mb connection will be necessary to stream 4K

Correct. As per Roku:

*Requires a compatible 4K Ultra HD TV with HDMI/HDCP 2.2 and a minimum of 15 Mbps broadband connection speed to experience 4K streaming. High Speed HDMI Cable may be required. 4K Ultra HD content may be limited or unavailable and may require additional payment to access.

no it cannot, but you can run PLEX on it.

I have both a Roku 3 and an Android Box and honestly I use the Roku 10x more than the android box - it's considerably nicer to use too.

AppleTV isn't in 4K though.

It's supposed to be released on November 4th so we will soon find out how much better it is.

I know the AppleTV will have far more game titles than the Roku. While the Roku currently has more channels than the AppleTV.

I have an ol' RokuLT and i enjoy using it.

The new one seems to be getting good reviews, though many say though many say if you have a roku 3 already and you're not interested in 4k content don't bother to upgrade.

Apple TV's interface is gorgeous though
