Ppl always mention this.^^^
In the past yes Toyota was king in resale value and to a point still today.
Vehicles being produced by other makers now(ie. Hyundai, Kia, Chevy etc.) are quite desirable to the public, they have proven so far to be reliable and aren't expensive to maintain improving those brands' resale value from what it was 5-10years ago.
Prices for parts at Toyota is ridiculous compared to others. I know this for a fact I deal with them and other dealerships quite often.
In years to come I believe the "winds of good resale value" will shift a bit. Toyota Trinidad is screwing us with terrible features, under powered vehicles and high vehicle and parts prices.
Just my opinion tho.

While yes, Toyota parts from the dealer are expensive, it would be quite some time before a new Toyota requires maintenance parts i.e. suspension, engine etc. And even then there are a host of aftermarket brands available that are also of very good quality. My good friend owns a PCS Corolla, the basic version and after four years and 150,000kms, the only thing he's changed is a rim that he bent, suspension and engine run like new still. The only negative may be body parts in the event of an accident and if you're going fully comp then that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

It would be a factor when the Insurance company hits u with depreciation lol. The Cruze, Elantra and Cerato have been around a while and never heard of owners having serious issues either so it would really come down to what ppl believe a badge is worth. Doubt a run of the mill Corolla or Yaris can be seen as any more prestigious

Boy stick to Toyota! A new Corolla and you good to go. If a man pay $20000 for a 2005 Accent he get rob, a 2005 NZE man wa $60000
If you feeling to go on the luxury side Camry or C180 FU ftw.
