What is the...

Postby shogun » August 1st, 2015, 4:42 pm

What is the best adhesive used to attach the rear view mirror to the glass?. Mine fell off today. I reattached it, but keeps falling off. :-\

Was searching online and no where do they give a definitive suggestion of which brand, or type to use, but cautioning about several of the "hanging on a hook" kits available.

Best thing to do is go by a windshield place n pay them some small money to use their adhesive. A tintman had eff up my rearview mirror and it wasnt possible to get a small amount of the epoxy to fix it. Double zee fixed it for me for free tho but i usually buy windscreens from them

i used the cheap one in peakes for $20 on a few vehicles. you MUST separate the bracket from the metal piece on the rear view and stick only the metal piece to the glass overnight before putting anything else back on. It cant handle any weight while its curing.

There is as epoxy that has to be mixed into a past, then applied, this should work quite well for your application. I can't recall the name but, some tuners will know what I'm speaking of....:/

yea as some guys said, the epoxy which comes in 2 tubes.. yellow and green. works like a charm. Apply it and hold in place while it dries. doesnt take too long.

This is the proper thing to use. Ensure that the glass is cleaned properly with rubbing alcohol and that the metal piece is cleaned of all remnant glue and perfectly flat. Place the glue on the metal only without the mirror attached and apply the activator on the glass, hold in place, wouldn't take long to adhere but don't install the mirror for at least 12hrs. Also make sure the windscreen is not hot and the vehicle is not parked in direct sunlight, it would dry the activator too quickly.

I used clear epoxy to attach the metal piece to a new windshield, allowed it to dry overnight and it held at least until I sold the car 3+ years later.

Clear epoxy in le hardware for 20bux btw.

I used a normal Loctite multipurpose glue to stick the mirror on a Vitara. Dansteel has it for $30. Took like 20sec to hold it and that was it. Tried pulling on it real hard after and it never came out up to now.
