WTK: NP lubricants

Postby angel_player » July 23rd, 2015, 11:36 am

I would like to know how NP or NP Ultra lubricants compare to other foreign brand lubricants. I have both a Toyota and Nissan vehicle, both with gasoline engines.

Is there a marked difference when using NP lubricants? What are some of the up sides and down sides you tuners have experienced.

Presently I use Castrol Synthetic blend, but was considering to cut cost by using NP. Is it worth it?

I had no issues when I used to use NP Ultra 20W-50 (mineral) engine oil. I used to use the NP Ultra-Tec 5W-40, but switched from it when I ended up getting a better deal on Amsoil.

I have a 2008 Hilux from brand new and have being using Ultra with no issues.
Before I had B14 and had used NP Ultra for 10 years, and when the mechanic took out the tappet pan cover to chage a seal the interior was goldish in color and very clean, never had no engine problem.

Thank for the responses folks. I just wanted some other opinions since in the past a couple other tuners advised that I stay away because NP lubricants since it had been known to get excessively thick and globby by the time an oil change was needed... :| :|

I have been using NP lubricants for years without any problems in new and old high milage vehicles. I've never experienced the thick globbiness that you speak of and i do my oil changes every 5000 km or every 4 months whichever comes first...

NP is good oil only switched to try something different

Used many oils before NP and biggest difference is the price, NP is worth it to cut cost.

If you use the synthetic to 5000 km, never got any problems. Great upgrade from mineral oil. I switched to mobil because it gives you a longer time between changes and 10W-30 performed better in my car. I have nothing bad to say about the NP.

Used NP in an almera for years...no problems.....changing oil was pretty cheap then.....oil and filter....

I use shell helix in the other car since new...so kept on using the helix.....pretty expensive oil changes compared to using the NP oil.....

NP Ultra Tec also comes in 10W 30 and is 100% full synthetic - not blend.

you get a free oil filter with the purchase of 4 quarts, 1 gallon or 5 liters of NP ULTRA Premium at select retailers. Check most parts places that NP ULTRA is sold.

Thanks Duane. Wanted to know what filter was being given. Seeing the note on the pic now and wondering if it's the customer's/retailer's choice.

Try our new Ultra Tec 10w 30 or 5W 40 lubricant which will be perfect for your Almera, it is API SN rated with Fuel Saving Technology. It is now available nationwide. And right now you get a free oil filter at selected outlets.

Let us know where you are located and we can suggest an outlet near you to get your free oil filter with the purchase of 4 quarts, 5 liters or 1 gallon of Ultra Tec.

It is the customer's choice, up to a value of TT$40 and what the retailer has it in stock. If the filter you want is over TT$40, then you can simply pay the difference.

how did you determine the extra time / mileage between oil changes for the Mobil 1?

AE111 was first manufactured in 1995...did you have a very very early release model?

Thanks for the response! I'm really interested in trying the Ultra Tec 10w 30 or 10w 40 in an Almera as well. Could you give us an idea of the retail prices for both? And possible locations in San Fernando, Marabella, La Romain, Debe and environs where I can purchase the Ultra Tec with free filter?

Performance. I cold run mobil to 7000KM without issues. NP oil gave a considerable decrease in idle smoothness at around 5000km, all things being equal.

the Ultra 10W 30 you used then was a mineral oil and you comparing it to a Mobile 1 synthetic 10W 30. You should compare it to the full synthetic Ultra Tec 10W 30.

synthetic Ultra Tec 10W 30 only came out recently.

I used 20w50 years ago without problems. My only recent complaint: I went to NP gas station asked for any 10w30. The response from attendent/cashier "What?!! It don't have that. All oil is 20w50". (true story)

Is this oil a true Synthetic oil with polyalphaolefins (POA) or is it like Castrol & Mobil (Group III) ?

How is the PCMO formulated with basestocks, additives, viscosity improves, detergents and additive carriers ?

most of the major brands now market Synthetics that are crude derived, since the definition no longer considers the source, but rather the final molecular structure.....at the end of the day, when you change the molecular structure so that everybody's a nice uniform size, it doesn't really matter the origin of the final base
