I believe the e25's with T that has seats in them, require a pass from LO, and a insurance that would cover its passengers. Other than that, they usually try there best to avoid roadblocks. As for importing, just do a search in the forum something must come up

T = registered as a commercial vehicle, i.e. Typically no seats unless you apply for a workman transport permit. Less tax when importing/ registering. Most people you see with seats are normally taking a chance and you can be ticketed just for having the seats without authorization.

P = private - requires no class 4, 8 seats legally without having a "connection" in LO. Higher tax.

I guess this explains why the T registered ones I viewed had many seats yet the c/copy said registered for 3...

How come if registered as P you can only have 8 seats?

Also how does one get a workman permit if registering as T?

Thanks for the feedback!

The eight seat limitation is just how it is according tot the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act - “private motor car” means a motor vehicle approved by the Authority for private use exclusively with seating accommodation for not more than eight persons;"

viewtopic.php?t=167190 - A lot of info in that thread also. Have the workman permit info there I believe.

From personal experience, to import any diesel vehicle, you must have a registered business or you can import it under a religious organisation,(church, temple, mosque etc) non profit or non governmental organisation, (can't remember which) for "use" by said organisations.
You will be able to licence it as "T", but you can licence it "P", and pay the VERY high taxes (I think it was $45,000.00) and you have to install the seats and get the vehicle inspected at Licensing Office. With "T" you have to get a workman's permit by writing a letter to the Commissioner of Transport, explaining why you would like permission to transport passenger in said vehicle, along with all relevant documents pertaining to your business and the vehicle AND $1500.00. You HAVE to do this EVERY 6 months.
Licensing officers also target panel vans in roadblocks, so be aware.

Yes the taxes are very high. If you can, wait 5 years and convert to P for free.

I dont mind paying the taxes but i need more than 8 seats..Im guessing I would be better of registering as T and paying for a workmans permit? The workmans permit allows the full 10-12 seats?

I just did as I posted, guess I had a good reason! I asked a friend who worked at licensing to submit the documents for me though, dunno if they put in a good word!?, but they don't work there anymore!
My letter stated why I wanted 12 passengers, my type of business required it. I was told by my friend that it's up to the Commissioner to approve it though. With "T" that is.

And with this "T", do you need a heavy t license?

Yes....
All the RORO panel vans usually have a MGW over 3000kgs

2950 if the minimum for light motor vehicle

Over that requires heavy motor vehicle

Hence the reason the new ford rangers require "heavy t"....MGW is 3200kg

For the "properly" registered e25 yes. However if the mgw is under 3000 then no. Class 3

Interesting info here...
Got an Isuzu panel bus myself, that I converted and installed seats within the 8 occupants category. Contemplating going the "P" way or Workman's Permit "T" way...
