$100. FEE FOR RETURN CHEQUE, IS THIS ILLEGAL

Postby blackberry1234 » April 22nd, 2015, 5:02 pm

I was recently recall by an reputable business in BAMBOO for a return cheque when I went to pay them with the amount and received the return cheque the cashier tells me I also have to pay a $100.00 fee to them......I told her that is nonsense because the bank charges $35.00 for any return cheque why $100.00.......her response that is their policy on return cheques which they never told me neither have a sign up for the public notice.....any help, advice or opinions on this

Returned cheques are generally a big 'pain'.
Buyers need to understand that most vendors not going to line up and cash any cheque but will instead deposit same to their approp account.
The fact is most cheques require a minimum of 4 working days and this may infact be 7 or more calendar days.
After the customer defacto has been given credit of at least 1 week, to have a cheque returned and the vendor now has to go back into the bills find contact infor and take the time to communicate with the customer hoping he or she would 'turn-up', I wonder what should really be a reasonable penalty or fee?

that isn't accurate

only if a individual has a history of bounce cheques then fraud squad can intervene

one or two cheques will be labelled as "insufficient funds"

i have had issues with completely legit and honest tuners from right here, where they write me cheques and when i go to cash or send to deposit, it come back as insufficient funds because THEY deposited their customers cheques that they thought cleared but didn't and so their accounts came up as not having enough money. it is a pain to deal with because the first thing you think is....this mc scam me

plus you spend time to go to bank, line up, waste time having to call customer for them to bring your money.....

in my opinion you should gladly pay that $100 because they can turn around and post up a copy of your bounced cheque in their businessplace as well as other business places in bamboo or elsewhere not to accept cheques from you

I was told differently when I had an issue regarding bounce cheques

Once the check bounces one should report it to fraud squad. This was from fraud squad some years back

you can report it to fraud squad and they will take you on if the person is ducking you and refusing to pay

they obviously cant do that to blackberry1234 as he went in to pay as soon as they called him

The fraud squad approach is really a pain and isn't really a means to a quick business solution.
BTW, a few years ago all local banks published notices which suggested that payment by cheque was not as supported by financial institutions as may have been the case years ago.
The story that payment by company cheque means a higher level of guarantee of payment is today not true.

Yea as a employee you can actually refuse payment by cheque. And yup company cheque means nothing at all now.

My understanding is you can report any bounced cheque to fraud squad.

Check alya firetruck account before writing a cheque.....
