Thoughts on this GPS car security

Postby Adrian howell » April 7th, 2015, 11:29 pm

Call me a conspiracy theorist but am I the only person who is observing certain GPS security companies retrieving so many vehicles that have their systems in it?? Im beginning to wonder 1. Is car stealing on the rise again since this GPS stuff 2. If you have GPS installed and its being tracked by the company that installed it isnt it easy to send people to " take " your same car then send police etc to recover it to boost sales of the product?????? Am i just being paranoid or isnt this a valid concern.....most GPS systems come with microphones etc so the trackers can listen to your convos at any time and also know your daily whereabouts......what is there in place to prevent this from happening IF in fact it does happen???

Them GPS security business popping up like doubles man so I wouldn't doubt you.

Test out your theory by hooking up 2 or more Gps systems.

Or put your own hidden mic for extra measure.

How regulated are these companies?

They are not providing your run of the mill consumer product.

Alternatively you can purchase your own gps tracker and just use the police to go find it in the event of theft.

Stolen vehicle recovery, is a free service provided by the Police, you should not have to pay for this. also choose a company with a clean track record, that has been highly recommended, and when doing your installation, here are a few points to take note of.(1) Don't let the installer provide you with the SIM that is needed for the GPS device to function, as knowledge of the number on the card is the only way a third party can locate your vehicle. (2) Get full instructions on how to initialize the GPS system, so you don't have to give them the SIM number to begin using it . (3) Don't opt for the 24hr. monitoring service, where the company can track your vehicle when they want to, it's your investment and responsibility, you track and monitor your own car. (4) Most GPS units come with a default password, change it as soon as you are able to.
