WTK Best place for STAR GAZING?

Postby rere31 » March 19th, 2015, 9:23 pm

I'm a big fan of astronomy and I'd like to know where is a good location for star gazing? Tranquil, safe and secured. Can anyone help me out? South preferably but i don't mind coming out of my zone.

Bamboo Cathedral/Tracking Station would be PERFECT, but that side just isn't too safe now.

In for suggestions also.

go up the freeport up in the central range.

My friend has a house there and there is literally minimal light pollution.

We went in his back yard and spread two yoga mats and lie down with google star map and a cheap telescope.

my friend showed me all the constellations and stars and planets etc.
He asked me what planet i really wished to see and i said "uranus"

we had a pretty good time actually.

Anyways get Google Sky Map and it will tell you what stars and planets visible etc and real time location of the constellations.

NIHERST actually has their astronomy night tonight.
You can look at the stars through high powered telescopes etc.

Show time is from 6pm-9pm.

Adults $20
Kids $10

You never realise how much light pollution affects the night sky, until a blackout happens and then you notice things in the sky that was never visible before.

As far away from the cities as possible. But even still, with all the streetlights in unnecessary places there's so much light pollution everywhere you still can't see that much. I was in Grenada last year and even driving along the road I could see the stars better than a moonless night I went turtle watching in Mathura.

Go to the back by the small training pitch, the carpark has too much lights otherwise.
