But if the car was in reverse and got hit from behind, would not the gear it was in mitigate the effects?

if hand was on transmission shifter. the impact would cause hand to move. and it would move freely to
drive

Anybody figure why the motorbike went into the other lane? The vid is in slo mo ,so there is a delay in time. It is apparent that he sees the truck coming out and pulls into the other lane. Remember this is happening much faster than it appears in the vid.

he probably went in the oncoming lane because he misjudged the speed the truck was coming out on the main road

I wonder what speed he was going at, would this have happened if that was 30-50kph?

Based on the video, I believe the biker opened out to avoid an accident with the truck that he inevitably ended up hitting. If the biker continued on his lane when the truck entered the intersection, there is a high chance he would still have the accident, just with the rear end of the truck. He aimed for the "opening" that he saw on the other lane instead of the one that might open up if the truck is fast enough to clear the intersection.

They are both at fault, one for the speeding and the other for entering the intersection when it wasn't safe to do so.
Unfortunately might is right.

If a bigger truck was coming down the road instead of a bike at that speed, would the driver still enter the intersection. Probably never saw the biker until he was less than a couple metres away.

Sad incident.

papers said the bike man overtake another vehicle an ran into the truck. truck probably cam out the same time he overtake on single carriageway. typical result.

Likely scenario: On coming vehicle slowed to allow the Xtrail to enter traffic. Xtrail driver proceeds to enter traffic. Biker following the vehicle that slows down enters opposing lane to pass. On coming white wagon slows, biker has an oh $..! moment and crashes.

Truck Driver, hope you OK and the bikeman insurance pays for your damages.

Yup, well known death stretch. Police should setup the occasional speed traps in known stretches like these. Eventually drivers will get the point...

Just put the auto camera ticket system. Choose two spots between St. Marys and Deonarine Junct

Sure money rolling in

Exactly,
Trinis really have poor driving ethics however a year (or more) of speed traps in high accident areas will change that...

What is the procedure of reporting a traffic light that is not working? Main traffic light by NEC on the Rivulet road Couva not working.

Speed traps will only have you slowing down for the trap and speeding up after.

Trinis need to take defensive driving principles more seriously.

That's a good thing. No traffic there whatsoever on either side.
