What constitutes a "safe" gate?

why pay so much for a gate and over look the safety aspect of it.
shogun wrote:Gate safety regulation sounds a lil ridiculous. There are many things on a structure/house/home that if poorly constructed could cause injury/death. Someone should definitely look in to the use of these particular types of gates though, it's not the first complaint i've heard a bout them.

pugboy wrote:slide gates usually have a piece of angle iron which acts as a guide, with either
a roller or a piece of angle on the wall posts which keeps it upright
from what I have seen, it would appear that a child standing and pulling on the vertical
could rock the bottom off the track and the gate would slide out perpendicular to the track
whilst the angle would just slip out from the roller guide
they need to position the angle so it cant and the guide has to be strong to hold against pivoting action of human pulling gate
a safer gate would have the guide on a post on the inner side(non-road) of the gate
this way the gate is sandwiched between the wall post and guide support post.
