Vehicle "break in" spots

Postby Mad Hatter » December 14th, 2014, 11:10 pm

Knowledge is power and your loss may help someone else in the future.

We all know the usual vehicle theft spots like shopping malls, grocery, etc. But perhaps reminders are required every so often. Or in my case, a learning experience...

I went on a charity (cancer patient) boat cruise on the coral vision this afternoon... Parked my Navara about 4 spots from the breakfast shed around 1:30pm. came back at 7:15pm - passenger front glass broken, music gone along with other stuff.

Reported to police station on St Vincent Street and they said that vehicle "break-ins" and stolen vehicles were common for those who parked along Wrightson Road and Dock Road during a cruise.

I had thought that the extra traffic from families on a Sunday afternoon at the waterfront would have been a deterrent, especially since I was parked close to the hub, but I was proven wrong.

Anywho, I wasn't aware that this location was such a dangerous spot, considering I work in POS and park around this location often.

It helps to know...may this thread be filled with similar experiences as a reminder or enlightenment to persons on common vehicle "break-in" spots.

So they know people breaking into vehicles or stealing them there during certain hours. That's good that they know. You weren't glad to hear that they know WHEN and WHERE it's happening? I don't know why the does even open their mouths to talk sometimes nah.

Bro...I'm sorry about what happened to you. Truth is I don't trust to park ANYWHERE in pos really. When is not bandit breaking in Ur car..is wrecker going with it..or is man bouncing Ur car and driving off. If you say you work in pos...best bet is usually to park in work and foot it to Ur destination or mop a drop. Might be a lil inconvenient but better safe than sorry.

Don't leave any shopping bags, hand bags, laptop bags, or even old roti bags in plain sight in the car. Put everything in the trunk.
If you have fancy music that can be seen from the outside, well that makes your car an easy target.

The deterrent in this case is that there is nothing in plain sight to try to steal, it may not be worth their risk of getting caught.

TTPS is d worse yea, all of them should be fired immediately.

Anyway, is there any sort of alarm system that is triggered by the sound of breaking glass ?

I use oem security systems now...but I know with viper you can add on a broken glass monitor and a tilt monitor (wrecker/flat bed). Maybe the high end ones come with that standard not sure

I dont even leave a paper bag exposed in my car, give bandits ZERO reason to look into your car.
Sorry about your loss btw, that sucks.

This suks! Sorry for your loss and subsequent expense. My advice, get all of the security devices known to man and install, install, install! The most it may cost is $5k. and keep an alligator in the front seat! LOL!

I don't leave anything in my car whatsoever. If I park in front the house I take out my deck face and go with it. I don't trust to park my car anywhere. Lit. Unlit. Police presence or not. I'm completely paranoid concerning this. And my wife is the same. She either walks with her wardrobe handbag or places it in the trunk through the backseat.

West mall carpark at the back of the mall; driver's window smashed, deck and a few misc items stolen from the glove box and centre console.
Hayes St. St Clair. Fogs stolen, and two other vehicles stolen within a couple months.

Gasparillo; carpark on the southbound exit by the bus shed; family member's suv had the lock on the passenger door forced open. Attempt made to remove headnunit.

Props to the op for creating the thread.

Think I heard of a couple other thefts/break-ins in the past there as well.

Moral of the story: Thieves are opportunists. Can/will happen at any location if they're given the chance.

I see they put up a sign on Hayes street, to be mindful of thieves and different guidelines to follow.
