Cliff Notes:

“His Excellency is currently provided with temporary accommodation at Flagstaff Hill, pending the completion of renovations to the (official) residence in which he is to be housed and in view of the particular circumstances, the housing allowance should be paid to him, during the period in which he occupies such temporary accommodation”.

The Chief Personnel Officer has approved President Carmona’s receipt of both State housing and a monthly tax free housing allowance of $28,000.

Belly or not if it is the real thing it is expensive

The photograph was published on the front page of the Express on September 27. Checks by the Sunday Express revealed that the lace shirt worn by Mrs Carmona resembles part of a fashion line showcased last season by British luxury fashion house Burberry. The lace shirt has a price tag of between 200 to 300 pounds sterling.......

Cliff Notes:

Lenore Dorset, former chief of protocol with the Office of the President, said: “From my observation this country is NOT MATURE as it ought to be and because of that I am refraining from making a comment particularly when it involves the Office of the President on matters of protocol. "

Yes but mature to get an extra $28,000 per month !!

That is $1.68 Million (TT) over tenure EXTRA !!

I'm in no way an expert but it does seem a bit questionable to the man on the street.
If he is being housed then why pay an additional housing allowance?
Isn't a housing allowance usually paid when no housing is provided?

Cliff Notes:

Senior counsel Martin Daly has questioned the legal basis on which the Chief Personnel Officer granted approval for the payment of a tax-free $28,000 housing allowance for President Anthony Carmona.

And former head of the Public Service Reginald Dumas stated yesterday that it would be “ethically reprehensible” if President Carmona is indeed living in State-provided accommodation, while at the same time receiving a housing allowance.

“If that is so, then he should GIVE BACK THE MONEY,” Dumas asserted.

If President Carmona has received the housing allowance since assuming office in March 2013, he would have, to date, received in excess of $500,000 tax-free.

When ministers were found to be using the tax free facility to buy range rovers, while at the same time using fleet vehicles for all their transport needs and receiving a monthly benefit...many here supported it..
It looks to be the same principle.

the only reason these files bussin because it was practised and the norm under the PNM, so they know what to look for

It shows the hypocrisy, bias and disparity in the media reporting.

Hazel Manning was getting a Housing Allowance and a Travelling Allowance while using State resources.

and the spin doctors of the pnm use the distraction "dem do it too" as some sort of excuse or to trivialize it

Housing allowance is a big farce, finally somebody in authority open their mouth.
All them judges and Govt hotshots collecting money when they already in a house.
Just another excuse to give away money.
