Info needed: QUESTION ON FILING OF TAXES

Postby sc@rf@ce » September 30th, 2014, 10:08 pm

A cousin of mine has been working for the past 13 years and has never filed taxes before. His salary was $5000 a month. About 13 months now he has been employed with a private company and salary has crossed 60k per annum. He has decided to file his taxes because of the amnesty granted. Would he only have to file for past year or past 13 years.
Tried calling inland revenue but phone only ringing.

Not necessarily . this topic is pretty tricky since we don't know all about it . I recently file for the last 3 years . first year I received a small amount 2nd .I was owing and 3rd I received . so I filied all 3 at once and the girl at the desk said she will handle the rest .beats me so I guessing that the balance owed balanced off with a deduction taken out from the 3rd to balance the owed2nd

There is no obligation to file taxes as an employee unless you are a director. It is good practice to do so, to ensure your records are maintained, but regardless of the 60k threshold, unless you have something to actively claim for, such as housing, alimony, approved credit union shares, approved annuity, then its not really needed.
