Armoured vehicles necessary?

Postby j.o.e » September 10th, 2014, 7:20 am

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/news/Fir ... 57871.html

THE NATIONAL Security Ministry is taking its fight against crime in this country “to the next level”, with the purchase of armoured personnel carriers that can withstand high-powered rifles and grenades.

In an article entitled “Firepower”, published in March, the Express exclusively reported more than 20 specially outfitted armoured vehicles, including armoured sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and armoured personnel carriers (APCs), would arrive in Trinidad and Tobago soon to assist the country’s law enforcement in the fight against crime.

Citizens yesterday got their first glimpse of an APC in a poster from the Ministry of National Security, posted on social media site Facebook.

“We’re taking our fight to

the next level,” the poster stated.

“Our defences are only as good as our personnel defending you. The armoured personnel carrier will protect the troops from today’s high-powered rifles, grenades and explosives, in hostile and potentially hazardous conditions, and allow them to reach their objectives on time and ready to perform their operation,” it stated.

The ministry said it will supplement the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force’s fleet “with these types of vehicles, for use by our protective services”.

“Protecting you in times of unrest,” the poster stated.

“The plan is to fight fire with fire and go into the ultimate hotspot areas and take the fight back to the so-called gang leaders who actually have the impression that certain areas and communities belong to them,” National Security Minister Gary Griffith said in an interview with the Express when the story was published.

“We will be going in very hard with clinical precision, with a special operation group,” Griffith said.

And if this is for hotspot use...so many?

Fact of the matter is this is unnecessary unless they are actually gonna start a literal 'war' on criminals, and just start riding up in laventille and shooting whoever they see gaping. The only people who does destroy police vehicles are officers with their 'tactical driving'.

Really? Assuming that is the same size as Amalgamated's armoured vehicles, that going up Laventille?

Better yet in an all out "war" in such areas ZR how does this help in tacking a militia/guerrilla style battle?

Did they get this idea from watching the coverage of the Ferguson riots?

If so then they should have also seen the outrage of actually having these vehicles in the police force there.

SMH.. hopefully they change their mind. I don't see this being necessary.

So who will the ousted government get to put in these vehicles and who will they stage this war against? Do you really think that is what these would / could be used for?

This type of equipment has proven to be essential in the protective and intradiction activities in most countries.
The configuration of the units need to be relevant to our operating environment as many have observed and a fleet of 52 is quite excessive.

Paramilitaries ..lol

So a large community is under siege since 2011 soe.. remains that way
we release the dogs of war..
we attempted to pass legislation to have army with arrest powers.
we paint the picture that crime is only committed by one group of citizens
we continue fail to look at white collar crimes
buy 30 armoured vehicles for TTPS
who have carried out in excess of 34 extra judicial killings of citizens

we looking real good in international eyes man

Manning and crew before did the same level of ass.
buy a set of party tricks and copters ..

spend my money ... employ yuh party hacks.. procurement of these vehicles more than likley by some business associate of the govt...
same sheit different day oui...

long range naval assets to discourage drug and human smuggling, We have these in our coast guard (Offshore patrol vessels) as well as the smaller, quicker speedboats (1000HP interceptors... yes 1000HP, 4x250HP engines) for coastal patrol. The problem here is that it is alleged that some coastal officers tip off the traffickers so they are able to avoid the vessels.

For all you who are getting giddy at the hope of these behemoths somehow maneuvering through the narrow hilly streets of Laventille, Morvant and Belmont, be aware that there might be a change of govt. When they show up in the South Trinidad biannual burn tyre road protest I hope you guys don't mind.
